Kinsella singled him out after the reserve game vs Aldershot so could see him in the squad for a few games, and if Sam keeps getting these knocks then wouldnt be at all surprised.
We haven't got 36 different players this year, so he might just have a better chance ....?
Send him to Southend on loan.
Or better idea, send him to Scunthorpe - they know how to take a raw player and make a Championship player out of him. It's only when he returned to Charlton, that he'd go into decline again - after a stunning first six games.
I watched him in the reserve game 2 stepvers and a shot everytime he gt the ball no matter where he was on the pitch or who was better positioned. Was really really poor in a game no one done any good in
"We tried 36 different players last year and he still didn't get a game."
He spent the last 6 months of the season on loan to a Dutch-side. I get the feeling he's going to be starting on the bench in the next month. We're a bit light winger-wise. And weren't the management very excited when we got him? The bloke was even saying he understood the comparisons between himself and Cristiano Ronaldo!
You know, I can honestly say if he walked past me in the street I wouldn't have the foggiest who he was.
Can someone let us know a ball park figure for how much this guy has walked away with in the last few seasons and indeed........................... how much longer he will be on the gravy train?
Know it's been done to death on here but do we have to pay for each game he plays or for a set amount (ie he plays more than 5 games) ? If so why dont we play him in cup games to put him in the shop window. Sure he must be pretty fed up of skulking round Charlton Village on match days.
[cite]Posted By: razil[/cite]If you were him wouldn't you forgo 6 months salary to have a chance of kickstarting your career, or is the fee in excess of that amount?
is 6 months what he has left?
if he is in the last 6 months then he can be negotiating with another club to kick start his career with a signing on fee in 6 months time, along with the £130,000 we will pay him in the meantime.

True...have seen and read quite alot about this fiasco, to the point where it's all quite confusing to tell the truth.
I was thinking he could forgo salary to pay for his first appearance for us, which i believe how the deal was laid out (sum paid on first appearance)? I guess if he's on loan elsewhere they are paying some if not all of his wages, and if in Denmark he's at home, and waiting for someone to snap him up.
Im thinking in todays climate of stupid money being paid in transfers all it would take would be a couple of good performances against clubs in higher divisions and some whally chairmen would splash at a couple of million for him to soften the blow. Peter Ridsdale comes to mind.
According to rumour we have to pay his former club £250k when he makes his first team debut, I guess it's partly that but probably more likely the view that he's simply not going to be good enough to ever play more than a few games for us, plus we have players like Sam and Wagstaff who are better in that position. Since he joined the Club he's been on loan in Denmark and Holland and hasn't made headlines there in less competitive and less physical leagues so not paying the £250K to see if he can magically improve his game looks a wise move.
You have to also question what guarantees were made to the player. Im sure from not even the most cynical viewpoint a young player would sign a contract which effectively has seriously damaged/ stunted his career. I know players like bostock/ parker signed big money moves to go and sit in the reserves but they at least had a reputation to fall back on whereas i doubt MC is widely known over here.
[quote][cite]Posted By: RodneyCharltonTrotta[/cite]When its put like that BFR makes sense i suppose. Shame though as complete waste of time for both the club and the player himself.[/quote]
Yep, and I don't blame the player for any feelings of animosity he may have towards the club. He came over with good intentions on his part, which haven't been reciprocated by us, so I don't blame him for hanging around and collecting that £5k a week salary. If Pardew had picked him early on then that £250k clause would now be long forgotten and he'd probably have a fair few first team games (if only in the League Cup etc) under his belt. Perhaps like Youga and one or two others who developed late he needed his chance, but since he hasn't done much on-loan I doubt he'd make the grade with us.
Indeed. Can imagine it must be a pretty lonely and frustrating existence for the guy as well. May be minted but in a foreign country, cant play so his career is going no where and dont imagine he is involved in much team bonding being on the periphery of the squad. Maeks me wonder what sort of people he had around him at the time of signing up and what he was sold by pardew. Obviously the club we got him from were rubbing their hands as it was a win win situation for them.
Agreed BFR, though not so sure that he'd not have made the grade with us. All the people involved in such a stupid payment structure: and let's not try and suggest Pardew cooked this little mess up on his own, should hang their heads in shame. I include his agent and the selling club in that.

He looked good at welling last year- i know that isnt proof but im sure if the financial implications didnt exist he would have had a crack last year and definitley this year. Agree that the agent and his old club just saw the £ signs and i suppose the opportunity to earn good money playing for a not so recently premiership club in london would have been very appealing to him to.
I really don't blame this guy at all for continuing to pick up his wages for doing nothing. We offered him these over-inflated wages, he's not going to match them anywhere else, particularly in the current financial climate (outside the Premier League). He'd be lucky to get £1500 a week - you wouldn't volunteer to take a paycut like that in any other line of work. It's Pardew and the board's fault for offering such a lucrative contract to an unproven player.
I also think that agreeing to pay his previous club £250k on his first appearance is the most monumentally stupid clause I have ever heard of. Even if we were still in the Prem and rolling in cash, it's a ridiculous clause to include, obliging the club to gamble a significant sum of money on the basis of a player's performances in the reserves and on loan.
Imagine if we'd had the same clause in Chris Dickson's transfer. Goal machine in the reserves and on loan at Gillingham but should think we'd all be pretty miffed by now if we'd paid £250k for his services, based on what we've seen in the first team since his first appearance. Why would you agree to a clause like that? Surely you would, at the very least, make it £250k after 10 games, so you have some tangible evidence to base your decision on.
Just seems like an idiotic business decision to me.
We're in the Third Division now, and if it wasn't for the £250k payment trigger - he'd no doubt be included in the 1st team squad?
I just had the mindlessly banal impulse to check his profile on the OS. Guess what, this flying winger checks in at a hefty 13st 4lbs (84Kg) - despite barely reaching 5' 8" (1.73m) ...........!
Presumably the £250K clause was inserted by us because we knew that we'd have to invest some time and money in the player to get him up to speed and strength for regular first team English football and that clause would allow us to reduce the amount we'd pay out initially and give us some cushion if he didn't make the grade.
If that's the case then I wouldn't blame the player/agent/selling club who simply saw the opportunity to get over the odds for an average player.

So two more seasons of this waster planted by Pardew to drain the lifeblood of our club :-(
