The Top Five Songs of.... The Rolling Stones

To celebrate the V & A buying the original Rolling Stones Tongue logo for £50k the top five of the greatest rock and roll band in the world (and SE London/Kent Boys to boot)

5. It's only Rock and Roll - "If I could stick a knife in my heart suicide right on stage would it be enough for your teenage lust would it help to ease the pain?" Great debunking of the myth that rock and roll actually matters

4.Sympathy for the Devil - 9 mins of funky soul about Lucifer - Why the Stones were better then the Beatles

3. Sway - laid back and raunchy

2. Wild Horses - "childhood living is easy to do"

1. Gimmie Shelter - Used in just about every Martin Scorsese movie ever but why not when it is so atmospheric and menacing.

4.Sympathy for the Devil - 9 mins of funky soul abut Lucifer - Why the Stones were better then the Beatles

Who is better the Stones or the Beatles was, is and always will be the wrong question. The right question is, who was better the Monkees or The Kinks? If you're a school kid the answer should be The Monkees as they were an entertainment force the likes of which had never been seen before (despite being totally manufactured). If you're an adult the answer should be The Kinks as they wrote better songs than the other 60s/70s groups put together, with the possible exception of Pink Floyd.

Wow. This one was really hard, and I could choose any of about twenty. The one constant is that so long as Ruby Tuesday isn't there, I'm happy...

yes the Kinks wrote great songs. Not sure how Pink Floyd got in there but this month's Uncut magazine has the top 30 Pink Floyd songs.

I like the Monkees too but they never did Waterloo Sunset

Don't know where to start - would have to pick about 100.
In any case, they'll all be the same songs as others have already said.

Okay, first Stone's record I ever heard, really bluesy, made a big impression on a little kid: Little Red Rooster

The number of people of a certain age who have told me they were in Mick Jaggers class in Dartford is such that the number of pupils in 5C that year must have been in the 100's. We need something like Colin Camerons Charlton book to check up on them...

    However,
