For me its a blinder..and obviously the other overseas.... but also with the reson thread about the absolute lack of coverage...started by someone in the UK, its clear its something that affects not just us idiots who are up at 4am watching a text update....
So overall we are taking responsibility for ou coverage without doing a deal that screws us WHEN we get back to the prem and are literally shi*&ing money, and contracts, and all the rest....
[cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]The way I see it, the club didn't have to go the extra mile - but a small minority clamoured for a commentary facility, and influential people at the club listened.
The club has also not sold out to the Premium TV people, just provided an important facility without surrendering their independence.
Marks: 10/10
Agreed, if it was the whole site I think I would feel a lot more angry. Satisfying a very very small minority (sorry Tel) at the detriment of thousands of supporters is just wrong. Thankfully, the powers that be have realised that and retained the existing site.
I don't think for one moment that the Board intended to close the OS.That wasn't the issue, anyway.
Charlton are the only club in the Championship, I believe, who do not have club commentary for it's matches.
This way, those who want to listen, get a match commentary.
How could that be possibly detrimental to thousands of supporters?
Maybe it wasnt clear to a lot of People Oggy, but I did say that it was online coverage without the Premium TV website when I posted weeks ago. Its pretty simple......if you want to pay to use it, then do so....if you dont, then nothing has changed......Cant spell it out simpler than that...unless of course people cant read. So perhaps the sniping can now stop about the club catering for a minority?
Can someone shed some light for the people who know nothing about PremiumTV?
Will it have a live commentary of all the away games?
If so this isn't just good for people living abroad but also for locals like myself who can't really afford to go to any away games outside London but still want to listen to commentary.
For what it's worth I would not have wanted to lose our independent official site even if it meant not getting any commentary. And as others of said, it won't only be those abroad who benefit. Looks like the club has found an excellent way to keep everybody happy.
Out of interest, if the government figures are to be believed 1 in 10 Britons live abroad - admittedly most of those will be about as British as the Moose I nearly ran over this weekend. So the figure may be closer to 1 in 50 born in Britain of British descent live abroad.
So given there are about 50,000 - 75,000 CAFC fans out there - I reckon we could have at least 1000 living abroad who would benefit from this service.
I have also signed up and spent the last hour creating highlight reels of Charlton goals over the last year... nothing like being able to watch Varney's double -- the second off our current captain -- again and again. Worth every bit of that forty quid.
Very mixed feelings about this one. I may go for the odd monthly package but I definately don't want to pay for the months where we're mainly at home. The annual package doesn't seem that much of a saving when you remember that the football season isn't 12 months long.
I can't help but feel though that big business is just thinking up more and more ways to pinch every last pound out of my wallet. It's not too many years ago when the only bills I got for "electronic media" were a quarterly phone bill and an annual tv licence. Now I have to pay a monthly broadband subscription, monthly satellite bill, mobile phone top ups and seemgly endless payouts for upgrades, peripherals and bits of kit that hadn't been invented a few years ago. Is my life significantly better for all this extra expense? I'd say not. Of course its nice to have a bit more choice about what and when I watch, but ultimately the content is much the same as its ever been.
AFKA is too modest to say it but you'd miss Charlton Life as well.
it is becoming harder though. At the gym this morning there was a sign saying "paper timetables are so last year" or similar with a note to say that if you wanted to know the class time you had to go on the net.
That's true, I certainly would miss Charlton Life, but for many other things I'm just paying now for what used to be provided free. Your gym timetable is a good case in point.
I am so happy with this and long live the minority, this way I get my charlton fix and still have a beautiful place where the sun does shine most days and thats in the winter time as well as very hot summers to live. Yes very happy.
I signed up but couldn't access the commentary. I got a reply from their services team today:
We can confirm that the Charlton has not officially launched yet - we are hoping to launch some aspects of it this week but can't confirm when the commentary will be provided We have extended your subscription by one month and would ask you to check the main site (http://www.charlton-athletic.co.uk/) for details of when the TV site will be operational.

Personally Im chuffed and signing up right now...

Fug me, they give you food as well !!!!!!!!
Its a disgrace.....
I praised them for doing this way round.
(Until we spend another year or 2 in the CCC then i'm sure we will succumb to the whole site gone...)
yes, we've got that at the Valley now so wouldn't be a problem : - )
Can I say wait until any broadcast/Website deal is actually announced and the details set out before praising or condemning it.
;-)

Cornish local radio is crap at broadcasting Charlton live commentary every match

***Edit: as long as it works on Macs that is...

How will the club get the message across?
I just hope my bandwidth is better than it is today when I listen or it'll be like commentary by Norman Collier.

Only one way to find out, cancel your internet connection, mobile phone, satellite tv for three months and see how you get on.
You will be shocked how much your life depends on them, particularly the net. Finding out an address, phone number, train time etc

Bah Humbug.
Mind you, being addickted to Charlton Life, I don't really get time to do my job ....... (!)
Got any vacancies out Down Under, Perthy?
I'm fed up with the poxy rain.
Don't want to sign up if it's not going to be on there.
Cheers
anybody know?

As above I think not, so hold onto your cash until it goes live in a few days.
