Frankly I'm surprised that we have hung onto

  • clearly pards, board etc don't agree with your or why would we have bought Bailey and why give Holland a 1 year deal never mind what people on here think. I say its good to still have him as cover, i like him, but we can't deny he'd getting on, plus ZZ scored a lot more than him last year, or several years gone - admittedly perhaps in a slightly different role.
  • Maybe he s going on a season long loan with a buy option? Just a thought....
  • he cant now, its short term loans only after the window has shut
  • and I don't think the Prem clubs can take anyone on loan now can they?
  • I think the emergency short term loan thing may apply to both prem and champs, not sure tho
  • I am glad both are still here, I am sick to death of every conversation in football today revolving around money. I want to see good players playing for Charlton. If we'd have got 2million for each of these, which is debatable, is that the difference between us surviving as a club or not, I don't think so. We got rid of a lot of over paid players with a tonne of baggage, well done the board and Pards. I don't believe these players fall into that category. A midfield with Ambrose and ZZ makes us a stronger squad and a more enjoyable one to watch. If they decide at the end of the season to leave that's their right. I love watching ZZ and hope he doesn't get loaned out.
  • Ambrose is happy here . He will re-sign without hesitation I think

ZZ - nobody wanted him so we are effectively going to write it off I suspect.

Because ZZ did not leave, "nobody wanted him"? Were the confirmed (from both sides) conversations between WBA and Charlton simply an opportunity for old friends to chat each other up?

There may have been a number of reasons, a la HI, why ZZ did not leave the club last night, but one of them most certainly is not that "nobody wanted him" nor that no premier league team can see any merit in his inclusion in their side. Some teams may not have wanted him at the price at which Charlton was willing to sell and, if so, good for Charlton for not backing off.

........ if not we might be able to 'convert' him to be a centre half next to Hudson, I do recall reading he can play there, but with Cranie coming in perhaps that isn't necessary?

I think he'd be a bit lightweight there against the Jon Parkin's of this league - we'd also lose his energy and phenominal (love that word!, hehee) work rate in midfield.

But as you say, we've got Crainie in who seems ideal to partner Hudson.

ZZ might be ok as a centre back in China, but have to agree, he wouldn't have a chance there in this league against any striker with a bit of strength and height.

Will be interesting to see how Pardew uses Cranie, I think it'll be at right back though with Primus (playing on 'trial' for the reserves right now, just kicking off) or Fortune partnering Hudson. I like Moutaouakil, but if he keeps making mistakes he'll eventually be replaced by Cranie.

[cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]If we had sold them both it would have been:

"We have no ambition, we need to keep these players to challenge"

We havent sold, so i'm sure it will be:

"What are the club doing? We're going to get nothing for these players now - the Board has lost it"

Spot on. People were waiting for the player we "always" sell at the last minute with no time to replace him and when it doesn't happen they complain about that.

Absolutely delighted ZZ has stayed. Class player, a worker and a goal scorer.

Not sure how Maglor has worked out that "The only reason we won't have sold is that a deal could not be done". That is based on what?

I've no idea why no deal was done with WBA or anyone else but there are plenty of other options than just that one.

    - He might have signed a new contract to extend the one that runs out in June,

    - we might be about to sell him to a club outside the UEFA where the window doesn't apply (ala Smertin),

    - our new and secret Arab Owners wanted to keep him and are funding the deal,

    - the board, having raised the money they needed from other sales, have allowed Pardew to keep ZZ and in so doing are showing the "ambition" that people keep saying they don't have.

    - ZZ loves shopping in Greenwich Sainburys and wants to stay in SE London

If ZZ has decided to see out his contract and go on a free in the summer then we could lose out financially but isn't that what people want. If we sell a player before his contract is finished then "we are a selling club" (bit like Real Madrid were yesterday then) and "we always sell our best players" but when we don't something is wrong as well.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. FFS just be happy for a few seconds that we got a class player in the side for a few more months at least.

For once Henry I totally agree with you! ZZ will only make us a better side with him in it.

    - on the fact that we sell nay give away almost anyone on high wage/worth any cash, particularly as we've also said he was off.

    :)

    Are you Scottish?

He's related to Frankie Howerd. Nay, nay thrice nay....:-)
  • Glad he's staying. The board have shown some ambition by keeping him, and should be applauded. Lets hope he keeps fit.
  • To Henry's list I'd add the possibility that he couldn't agree personal terms.

And, is Russia is outside of UEFA??

They really ought to make Zenit give back the UEFA cup then, surely?
  • Will we go ahead with the banner now?

Or we could introduce another chant for him, which in no way is a subtle reference to Sunday, oh no!

To heads, shoulders, knees and toes.

    Zhennnnnnng Zhi ate my dog
    ate my dog!
    Zhennnnnnng Zhi ate my dog
    ate my dog!
    He sliced it
    He diced it
he put it in a wok
    Zhennnnnnng Zhi ate my dog
    ate my dog!

Seriously though, is the banner a good shout?
  • could he still go out on loan.........
