One for the history buffs

edited September 2008 in Not Sports Related
saw a program on history channel other day . This ex docker, old chap says " Deptford Creek used to go all the way to Leeds castle in Henry Vs time" The historian never pulled him on it. Deptford Creek is formed by two rivers , The Quaggy and The Ravensborne could it have actually gone all the way to Leeds castle ? i cant see that myself.

  • I understood the Ravensbourne to start at Caesar's Well, Keston Ponds, which leaves the Quaggy - doesn't that come down from beyond Chinbrook Meadows, near Sundridge Park? Some of the ancient rivers have disappeared underground but reaching Leeds Castle seems to be stretching things a bit.
  • perhaps he actually meant the A2/A20/M20?
  • maybe via the Thames, can't see Leeds castle being accessible that way but am no expert
  • Leeds Castle is on the River Len which joins the Medway at Maidstone..
