  • Shirty - Perhaps Sid had sorted their travel for them and it was his thankyou...
  • No, Sid has obviously been sorting the travel arrangements for our numerous departures and has never been so busy :-)
  • Well i had a top away day.

Pub grub and the Olympics, stood and sang all game, few drinks in Watford after then back up town and eventually home sometime after midnight, completely forgetting i'd been to a game.

Good laugh, good company, that is what i fork out my money for. Go in with no expectations of Charlton doing well so i won't be disappointed or spoil my day. On the odd occassion i do see us win away, its a magic feeling, sadly didn't happen on Saturday.

As for the team / game, we were disappointingly poor first half, but encouraged by the way we rallied and gave it a good go with ten. I thought we deserved a point.

The two main pluses for me this season have been Hudson and Racon. Hudson is a real rock and dominent leader at the back, after just two games i know we have got the better deal with that swap, while Racon has really impressed me, was my MoM again on Sat and was really growing in the game until he went off. Absolutely gutted he is going to be out now.

Negatives, well Youga was awful before the sending off. Seems to have one good game / one bad at present and needs to add consistency as he has the attributes. While the two in the centre of midfield did a great job, again the two wide ones disappointed. Boazza didn't show, and that was a real shame against an ex-club, while Sam looked better as a right back than as a wide midfielder. There is simply no quality creation from wide areas.

Whether its because of that Varney and Gray don't look up to it at present, i don't know. But if i'm honest, i expect more from them than we have seen so far. We simply don't have a realistic goal threat that is going to scare opposition and alter their gameplan at ppresent.

Reading will be a good test, and an indicator of what sort of season we are to have.
  • Weaver - excellent game. made a world class save near the end of the game. Next one out of the door as we sooo much need the dosh apparantly ????? 9/10.

Semedo - solid at right back. His job is a right back not a winger 8/10.

Hudson - Brilliant. So much better than Paddy Bomb scare. 8/10.

Fortune - Dossed off at the wrong moment. Does this sometimes needs competition which the board have not provided for Pards. 5/10

Youga - Harsh decision to get sent of. Awful when he was on the pitch didnt seem awake. Watford attacked him from the start. 2/10.

Racon - Just played the simple pass in front of the strong watford defence no splitting or creativity at all. Nearly scored with a dipping volley in the 1st half. 6/10.

Bailey - Not a bad debut. Quite good in the tackle tried to drive us forward. Looks a good signing 6.9/10

Bouazza - Should of kept him on and took off Sam. Was causing them problems down the line. 6/10.

Sam - Only one bit of creativity cut inside and put a threw ball to Varney centre backs had him. I think Watford goal came from a terrible cross from Sam straight into the arms of Poom blasted the ball down the field and they scored. Hardly any wing play from him. 4/10.

Gray - Centre back was always pulling his shirt climbing on him. Of course the useless ref and linos didnt see anything. 5/10

Varney - Lot of running but no service. 5/10.
  • I was listening to Kevin Blackwell on the radio this morning. He said that for a team to have any chance of winning promotion from the Championship, they would need at least one 20 goal a season striker in the squad. Sadly, it is very hard to see any of our strikers getting even close to 20 goals this year. You can't just keep moaning about the lack of service either; decent strikers have to create their own chances & take them. You only have to look back at how effective Andy Hunt & Clive Mendonca were at doing just that in our last two promotion seasons.
  • I know that sid has arranged a lot of travel for the directors in the past and he was a good friend of Peter Varney so maybe it was some sort of thank you.

Red_pete there was only a half a chance provided for Varney and Gray on Saturday. Maybe because the Watford defense was so strong and we havnt got any creatviity in the side since sadly Reid was sold. Would of thrown Shelvey on and put him out wide the guy can cross a ball.
  • Red_Pete ...... even goal legends like Andy Hunt & Clive Mendonca wouldn't have been scoring if they never saw the ball.

That's the job of our midfield - to create and provide some sort of service. It's not really happening, is it?

Most strikers expect to score from 1 chance in 3. Count them, how many chances did Varney have Saturday .... one half-chance?

    And Gray?
  • People are of course disappointed we lost at Watford on Saturday. How about this, though, at Burnley?

"......The action came early at Burnley where a member of the seven-man parachute team delivering the match ball to Turf Moor, crashlanded on the roof of a stand instead of on the pitch, causing a 50-minute delay to kick-off."

Ipswich eventually won 3-0 away but Burnley scored 2 own goals for them, lol
  • Jeff Stelling asked ''was he booked for decent''. lol
