  • We are achampionship team CHG but without a sprinkling of prem quality what serious chance would there be of staying up should we achieve promotion or do you think we could buy a whole new first team squad. Largely accademic cos I don`t think we are going anywhere.
  • so much for two pros in every position, is this another part of the old spin machine

we have learned the lessons from last year

    so it goes on

(hate to moan - just not fun having something you careabout dismantled before your eyes)

My question is where is the supply going to come from, I hope this paves the way for someone else to come in of this ilk.
  • ZZ to go, at 11.58 on 31st August....

    Good luck JT.
  • so the much derided Lloyd Sam scored 3 goals last year and I imagine got an assist or two yet is rubbish, whilst Jerome is premiership quality. There are too many on here who think neat stepovers on the halfway line = premiership quality. I would far rather we played basey on the left (can cross, can tackle, can cover his full-back), or played some one like ambrose (9 goals last year and I bet more than 2 assists) who will at least try and pick out a pass rather than stepover his way into a cul-de-sac

  • I hope we don't get stiffed again with the loan thing - players going on loan to earn permanent deals, then handed back to us (together with their wage bills) at the end of the season.

However, if we really aren't getting a fee for JT it will be very dissapointing. We should have cashed in on him a couple of seasons back I suppose, but then his form hasn't been good enough to persuade anyone to come in for him... I hope it means we are getting a player from Pompey.

Still, it lowers the wage bill.
  • Tuppence? Don't be silly.

It was at least a packet of wotsits and a half eaten Mars Bar.
  • bit undecided on this one

he was frustrating and his heart clearly wasn't in it last season but he was a player who could and had performed in the Premiership

at the start of lasts season we had three in that category - Thomas, Reid and ZZ

looks like it will none very shortly which is a big worry...

it's payback for taking Traore, must be..
  • kinveachy ... you forgot Ambrose, Weaver and Bougherra.

I am glad Thomas has gone, and of course Faye, Bougherra is by far the most disappointing departure.

  • Enough players in the squad who can play down the left. Bouazza, Basey and Ambrose. Another one of the wage bill, with i guess only ZZ left to go. Time for this centre half now.
  • Ambrose never been good on wing let alone left side, Basey jury still out big time, Bouazza same
  • Jury may still be out on Basey, but he outscored JT last year and is already half way to matching JT's assist count from last year
  • Glad he has gone has failed to deliver in the last 2 seasons and is always one back hill away from falling over and looking for an easy freekick

See you JT what an earth happened to you one min setting the team alight with vibrant performances then the shit we had to watch from your lazy fat arse in the last 2 seasons ruined what ever respect most fans had for you some still cling on to the glory days from you the rest of us have given up waiting,
  • Thomas is a quality player and should be a real asset to us.

That said Alan Curbishley appeared to be the only Charlton manager capable of getting any degree of consistency from him.

If as it appears we are on the verge of bankruptcy then I guess he has to go.
  • thats the problem len since Curbs went he has not done a thing not a dot and i for one have had enough waiting for him
  • I think lloyd sam is potentially a better player than thomas anyway.Dont get me wrong, thomas on his day is a quality player but his final distribution was very poor.
Lloyd Sam IMO is quicker, more skillful and more willing to get stuck in than thomas.
The distribution for Lloyd will come i no it because he is a quality player.
I think he is very underrated down at the valley.
  • All in all I think it a good move - for Thomas and Charlton. A player of his calibre should have scored at least half-a-dozen goals last season and made a fair few contributions with assists. That he failed to score, made two assists and went missing with a string of niggling injuries suggests that he needed a new club. Had he stayed I couldn't see him signing a new contract and we'd have lost him for nowt. This way we'll get some money and Bouazza is his equal and has his own career set back - not having made it at Fulham, so it's his chance to prove those who doubted him wrong. Good luck to JT - there is a good footballer in there somewhere and going out of his comfort zone might force him to bring that talent out. Or the move will confirm that he's another overpaid mercanary type who thinks the game owes him a living, we shall see.
  • guess we know why hes actually been trying last few games then. anyway as said before no end product one trick pony
  • Quite happy with this move. Pards knows what he is looking for and expecting from his players and I think Thomas has disappointed for at last two seasons now. I bet Bouazza turns out to be a FAR better player for us when he settles in. He does score and he can cross. If he loses both parts of his skill set, then I'd have to start questioning our coaching and tactical direction for matches.

Losing Faye (thank you Mr Pulis and the Lord our God), Thomas and possibly ZZ will hopefully enable us to make 2 defensive signings, BUT I do not think ZZ is a definite gonna. I think Thomas may have gone with a view to Pards at least sitting down with ZZ when he gets back from China to establish whether his heart really does lie elsewhere? ZZ can play right back, midfield and supporting the front man. Pards must know that it is worth sacrificing an unproductive winger on a sh1t load of money for a decent utility man. If a centre back aqnd ZZ stayed, we would have at least 2 players for every position and that would do me.

  • i can the zz staying now
  • always flattered to deceive but i think we got our 100k worth out of him...
i never understand the hatred/jealousy towards some players , i mean who if given the dough and relative success at a young age wouldn't have a decent motor and be on the booze trying to get hold of anything in a skirt
or should they behave like monks and refuse the ludicrous salaries offered to them ffs , i'm sure 95% on here would do the same
  • ZZ isnt staying 100%. if we are so desperate to let thomas go for free, and by the sounds of it pay for ZZ will go and probably for little more than 2 million, not forgetting we have just signed a tough tackling midfielder and have plenty of cover in the CM position.
  • i never understand the hatred/jealousy towards some players

    ..............

I don't think it is hatred/jealousy, in this case JT has a lot of talent, but talent is nothing without application and consequently he creates frustration, if he grafted a bit harder he could be a much better player. To me it seems that he's settled for mediocrity.
  • I really do not see the problem, another arrogant overpaid bad apple as I understand it ala Bent is off the Books & people are on here moaning. Thomas had one decent game last season WBA away & one the season we got relegated West Ham at Home. Two good games in two seasons is Premiership quality ? Give me the championship everytime thank you. As Salad said earlier, the only sale we'll come to rue this season thus far is Bougherra, the rest I am more than happy with.
  • I think it is probably for the best to be honest. He undoubtedly has skill, and he looked sharp pre season, but the area where he really struggles IMHO is making the right pass when it really matters. Yes he can skip past players as well as anyone on his day but not sure he has a great footballing brain.
So bye JT, you promised a lot but you never really delivered, even tho you looked great when you went on a charge down the wing. Maybe Pompey will get more out of you. But maybe it is just how you are.

Glad he's gone - was one of the worst culprits in that awful match v Wycombe.

Time for Bouazza to show what he can do, and time for Pards to get hold of a centre half, or preferabley two.
  • Thomas may have had all the tricks but his assist record and goal scoring record were awful. The talent is there but until he consistently delivers then to get a high wage earner off the wage bill is no bad thing if we can use the cash to get in a centre half, and another centre mid if Racon is out for a while and ZZ goes.
  • me 2 apart from magic happy with the rest goin
  • You may find this hard to believe BUT i don't hate Thomas. The reason for the articles about him was trying to point out the fact that HE was probably the best player we had. Possibly, he could have been the best player in the Championship. The fact i hated was that he/we knew he could go past players and deliver a decent cross, but rarely (if at-all) last season did. I honestly felt with him in the starting 11 we were starting agame with 10men.He had/has the skills but,for some unknown reason, didn't want to "perform".
Other than cheating us (the paying public) I think in years to come he will look back at his career and feel he cheated himself.
