Therry Racon marked his first competitive game in Charlton colours since last November by being named in the Football League's official team of the week.
First time I'd seen him play a whole game - he looked composed and capable and certainly did all the basics well. Not much sign of a creative spark, but that might come given more time and confidence, or a tougher battler alongside him.
I thought he did really well. He was playing against a 5 man midfield and Shelvey wasnt in the game at all. It was the first time I'd seen him play a full game and I was really impressed. My MOM. Couldnt understand how he got a 5 in the sun either!
BDL, Gray was toss ?? Really can't see how you arrived at that conclusion. He worked his nuts off and received little service, actually no service, from the midfield. He scored from his only chance. If that is your definition of toss then I'll take that every week thank you.
I don't disagree about the service however every time the ball was played up to him, Gray was out jumped and out musceled by the smaller centre half. Can't remeber him winning a single contested header all game. Thought he was poor.
The view must be different where I was sitting. ;o)
Can't agree there, Raz (can't seem to quote either at the moment!) - he couldn't catch a thing, and nearly gave away a couple of goals by parrying it straight back where it came from. If he had to parry becasue of the conditions, then he should have made more of an effort to push it out wide, or ideally round the post. It was probably my biggest concern of the day, yet last year I had him as POTY.
Agree with BDL that Gray looked v weak in the air, but also agree with Large that if he scores every week, I'll let him off! Maybe we should take a look at the Swans' centre half? Whilst Hudson and Forch did v well, it doesn't half worry me that we don't have any cover there. When has a team ever got through a whole season with the same centre back pair? It's one of the areas most prone to suspension and injury.
I'm with Large here. Gray had one chance, was mentally streets ahead of his marker who never moved - and took his one chance extremely well.
So if that was the only thing he did in the whole game, and then only did it every other game, I'd take that. That's 20-25 goals a season.
Toss? Absolutely. If he was any good by some peoples reckoning, he'd have to score a hat trick every game with the only chance he had in the match. And then people would still come up with some reason to rubbish him.
I'll be more that happy if Gray plays poorly every week but gets us a winning goal, that doesn't change the fact that IMO, for 80 odd minutes Gray did naff all.
I'm sure there will be other games where he will play a hell of a lot better and not score. Swings and roundabouts....
its funny how people go to the same game and have different views, i though JT had a good game sat where a lot dont! i suppose that what makes football.

They probably would have thought Holland, Ambrose & ZZ were all crap too.
;o)
Worth noting he was very impressive for Brighton for his first couple of games on loan, but faded after that.

Sorry, going way off topic here...
