Yep, it's definitely £5 on Saturday and as it's the first game in the old division 2 for Swansea for a while, I imagine their fans will want a programme too - a few will be in for a nasty shock.
I feel for the programme sellers near the away end, they'll take the brunt of the abuse.
This is something I really don't like. I like the handbook, it's well written and presented and I'd buy it every year even at £5 as I think it's worth that.
I know the argument is that the handbook on its own doesn't sell well but then charge a realistic price for it. I blame Airman Brown ; - )
£5 is fair enough for all that info, IMHO, and so leave the programme as the programme at £3.
I'd prefer just to have a seperate handbook in any case as I don't collect programmes but I do keep and collect the handbooks.
Alot of hard work has been going into producing a club handbook for years. I don't doubt that. However, the club should not force it on away fans (who want to buy a programme) and charge them extra for it.
You can get into the habit of buying away programmes, but at the end of the day you are sticking more cash into an opposing club for the save two pages of CAFC content that you got last week!

Hope it isn't the same this year
they were like goldust! so there is a demand! hopefully they'll do a few more this year, as last year we had scunthorpe and it was another promoted team so the demand is there.
Having experimented with this over the years, I can tell you that there is no viable cover price for the handbook on its own or at least we couldn't find one that we were prepared to charge. It might break even at £10 selling 500 copies, but I don't imagine people would like that either.
In theory its costs could be offset by advertising, but in practice the club cannot sell sufficient advertising and schemes to have third parties sell it have never come to fruition. It's not an area communications staff can address and no one else is sufficiently interested.
I accept all the arguments against doing it are perfectly valid ones, but in the real world the choice for the club is a combined handbook/programme and extra revenue or no handbook and less revenue (profit), which is no choice. Supporters do still have the choice not to buy it.
Think its good value myself at a £5.00 its the one program that I always definetly buy (in fact I have orders from overseas for 10 and counting). Dont really give a monkeys if the away fans like it or not.....they have a choice as do our fans.
as a swansea fan I have a suggestion. why not hang around the away end and for £2 you can have the handbook and we can keep the programme, job done. what will probably happen is you will find fans might well take the programme and leave the handbook, personally I'll take one and will read it on the journey home but I would agree the sellers might come in for a bit of stick from some of the travelling fans.

[cite]Posted By: Elthamaddick[/cite]can't remember the last time I bought a programme....just flick through the bloke's behind me at 2.55 half cut... ;o)
who i'm sure awaits the warbled "gimme ya fookin pwogwam" as the highlight of his fortnight !!
ho hum something to read on the way home then. We just did this for our friendly game and sold a review magazine but got the matchday programme free it was £4 for the two and the programme was marked up as £2 but I'm sure the powers that be considered that a large number of away fans will buy thus maxamizing the fleece factor. Can't really grumble as an away fan these days it all seems to be geared to squeezing the most out of those who travel.

Agreed, if the shoe was on the other foot, i know this is something i would be complaining about.

I'd imagine a lot of hard work and effort will go into producing this special edition.

Why?
It's the stats about all the players/coaching staff, last seasons results, line-ups etc

£5 is taking the pi55.
