[cite]Posted By: razil[/cite]Did I understand correctly that Wigan had to pay us a fee to send him back, perhaps to cover his wages till the end of his contract in Jan 09? This could be handy of course if true, and strengthens our position a little.
I think we got something in the region of £250,000 didnt we?

There was a loan fee and a similar sized bonus if Wigan stayed up.
  • Next seasons championship top scorer - Marcus Bent.

    On ability he should be.

    On attitude....
  • [cite]Posted By: shirty5[/cite]Just read on a Wales online site that they believe the bid was in region of one mil.

Charlton boss Alan Pardew has rejected a bid for striker Marcus Bent from Cardiff City, insisting "He's worth more than that."

City yesterday tabled a bid for the 30-year-old believed to be in the region of £1m, but that was dismissed by the south London outfit.

“With all due respect, it was a good bid, but it did not match his market value, particularly when you take into consideration the season he had at Wigan last year,” said Pardew.

Everton didn't think so when they paid £450k for him 4 years ago. Just beacuse we paid stupid money for him doesn't mean someone else will.

We are also all assuming that Bent will want to go to Cardiff. If I was him, I wouldn't!!
  • 7 goals from 32 isnt so impressive when u know he didnt score in their last 22 prem games. curbs worst signing.
  • [cite]Posted By: Ketman[/cite]Bougherra is not getting sold so I understand it, providing we can offload a couple of others (Start praying everyone)

I can understand why, the problem is that we are indicating that we might have to sell him, encouraging clubs to make offers. Eventually one will come in which attracts both the club (because it's at the top end of their valuation) and the player because it's from someone he fancies playing for, then you're into situation which you may not be able to control. I hope I'm wrong and that we get £2M for Bonking Bent and don't have to pay too much to get Faye off the wageroll..; - )
  • Guaranteed to score a hatfull against us home and away, where ever he goes!
How many other ex players do we need to look out for next season?
    Luckily Lisbie got relegated!

Lisbie might be going to Ipswich
  • There may be other clubs willing to bid, so we have to squeeze what we can out of them.

And like you said - its Peter Ridsdale were talking about here!

  • I can vouch for the Seth Johnson story too! I was saying to Mrs Spectacle earlier on that if every season ticket holder put in £5 to make up the shortfall to get Marcus Bent and the D-list circus that goes with him away from us it will be money well spent. Meanwhile, lest we forget who is under the radar and stalling everything that we want to do seemingly because he is still on the wage bill. As bad bits of business go, we have done plenty, but pound for pound Amdy Faye has to be in the top one.

    Didn't like Traore much either!
  • Agreed. Traore was the worst signing ever. I think we paid about 1.5 million for someone who acted like he'd never seen a football before.

    Faye = not much better.

How come Dowie is still in football management after this lot?
