"Hang on a minute guys for every Defoe there is one that does not fulfill their potential. What if this fella turns out to be a Kevin Lisbie, all potential & no end product."
I think you'll find bloody Lisbie had too much f*cking end product at The Valley last season!
We did have a sell on clause for Defoe and even got some tiny amount when he moved to Pompey.
However before CAFC kicked up a fuss about Defoe there was no compensation process for young players. West Ham took the attitude that quote "it's a jungle out there" and just signed him. We took the case on and as a result got compensation and the current system was introduced.
There should be a sell on fee but £1.25m may be all that Palace get if Bostock is a success as he may not be sold by Spurs. He may stay and play for them for 10 years in the premier and then leave on a bosman to Real Madrid and Palace get nothing.
700k upfront plus add ons based on appearances and caps going up to £5m may have been reasonable.
I can't help thinking that Jordan constant slagging off of the FA and other clubs hasn't helped him here and neither has the amount of noise that he and CPFC have made about their young players. I feel, perhaps wrongly, that they were always trying to bump up their value in the eyes of any buyers and to their own fans.
But the tribunal is still in the wrong IMHO and it sets a terrible precedent for future transfers. Let's hope that Charlton have a post dated contract tucked away in a draw somewhere with Master Shelvey's autograph on it.
And one other thing. I wonder if Palace's spending on Paddy, Nick Carle and Flahaven was being funded by the £5m they were bound to get from Spurs? Oh dear, let's hope not.
[cite]Posted By: BlackForestReds[/cite]The whole issue of a sell on clause has not been mentioned, so we don't know if it exists or not in this case, did we have one for Defoe?
...........
I think we did...
I believe it may have been 25% but cannot think where i got that figure from.

Similarly we had a sell on clause with Lee Bowyer - when he left Leeds on a free we got nothing.

Simon Jordan is a whining orange cock !
Shelvey is 17 in Feb so let's hope he's on a contract with us after that. If he is as good as he seems he is almost bound to leave at some stage but lets hope we get a great 5 years out of him and then sell to a bigger club than Spurs for a world record transfer fee.
Seriously though, 75% sell on clauses would sort this out much more favourably for the smaller clubs.[/quote]
surely this would just completely discourage the stealing club from ever selling - hence making the young player's potential even more wasted if he just ends up in the reserves

I'm pissed off the yids got him that cheap but also mildy impressed that it's got the great tanned one so irate (understandably irate you understand).

Just hope he wants to stay here for a few years at least and properly break into the team.
