To be fair to Kelvin "Micky Ambrose" may have played for Charlton at youth level or whatever. Does Colin Cameron post or lurk?
I know from my experiences of watching non-league football and socialising with the players afterwards that some of those who have had links to league clubs exaggerate what they did there!
It's only sad muppets like me that would know that though. I had a long conversation with "a former Charlton player" once and I casually asked him if he'd played for the first team knowing full well he hadn't. He told me that he had! To be charitable he may have turned out for a nominal first team in a pre season friendly or eqivalent but never in league, FA Cup or League cup in all it's guises.
Well if Kelvin knows him as a Charlton star, he must of played with us in the Premiership, because old Kelvin wasn't too interested in us before then !!
Ambrose in fact, has put out he played for us in the early 80s, but doesn't seem to be on anyones radar:
Mickey played with Charlton Athletic from 1980 1983 and moved to Chelsea in 1984 before an injury caused him to retire from professional football.
He then worked as a Scout for Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs over a two year period before being recruited by BSkyB to act as a roving reporter for the Sports Saturday Show.
As the only registered Football Choreographer within the UK, Mickey has worked on many TV dramas such as Gifted, Footballers Wives, Eastenders and The Bill.
In addition Mickey has also worked on films such as Fever Pitch and You Don't Have to Say You Love Me.
Mickey is also the founder of the TV All Stars celebrity football team and over the years has raised in excess of £ 600,000 for a number of charities including Help a London Child, the NSPCC and the British Heart Foundation.
Following all his charity work, Mickey was asked by the government to become a Sporting Champion, part of Sport England.
Leroy was around for most of that time and a bit before.
Maybe he is cleverly using his surname to his advantage or maybe not! Come on Colin how many soldiers did Mickey Ambrose have with his boiled egg on 16th November 1981?
Just did a google search and found most of what Smudge said about him. Think if he did play for us it was in the youth team. He never played in the first team I think.
Mickey Ambrose was a 'colt' at Charlton in the early 80's but hardly played. I believe he then went to Chelsea for a short while. The rest of the report regarding Micky's involvement in celebrity football and TV football dramas is correct. In fact, Mickey helped me to put a celebrity team together for one of our Wembley final's during my early days at The Football League. At that time he was well connected with 'soaps' such as Eastenders, London's Burning and the Bill; I think he was an extra in them at the time. I believe he also worked on the Sky football 'soap', 'Dream Team' which my colleagues and I at The League helped launch, as a 'football choreographer'.
Comments
he made his debut the same match as phil walker made his debut at peterborough away 11.8.79 according to valiant 500
Although Leroy came up through the youth team, so no doubt was the first black player signed by Charlton.
Walker came from Millwall.
The great Leroy and our Darren are the only Ambroses I know of.
yep 7.2.1970 he played his one match(on loan from ipswicj) for charlton and scored in a 2-1 defeat at home to huddersfield
Just goes to show really ...

There is no handbook for another 8 years but there might be something in a programme of the era.
Confess, I've never heard of Micky Ambrose.
Read today's papers about the forthcoming BBC doc on Hillsborough?
No I've not seen a paper today.
I'll google it.
