CL Managerial Cup 1st rnd: Mick McCarthy vs Roberto Martinez

edited June 2008 in General Charlton
Mick McCarthy is arguably one of the most experienced managers at Championship level. Since becoming Millwall manager in 1992, he did an admirable job with the Spanners and then more than held his own as the RoI manager. A poor spell with Sunderland is the only blackspot in his career, and on returning to Wolves, he is turning them in the right direction, with the signing of Ebanks-Blake arguably the best acquisition in the whole league last year. Still has a family home in Bromley, has been keen on the Charlton job for years and when at Sunderland is reported to have said he would of walked back to CHarlton for the managers job.

Roberto Martinez is just 34 years old, the youngest manager in the Championship for next season. After three years as a player with Swansea, he returned to manage them in 1997 and suprised everyone in leading Swansea to the league title and himself to the LMA manager of the year award. Begineers luck or unearthed genius ?

REMEMBER: You are voting on who out of the two on offer you would prefer to be Charlton manager.

  • i voted martinez cos i just couldn't vote for somwone that closely associated with millsmall , even tho i know he has more experience than martinez but i just couldn't press the vote button for him
  • Can't believe i just voted for MM but just did.
  • Cannot stand McCarthy and wouldn't want him anywhere near our club. And hopefully Martinez could unnearth some cheap Spanish gems for us.
  • I don't mind Mental Mick. Used to dislike him, but have warmed over the years. Have heard from quite a few who have met him he is a really nice guy.

16yrs managerial experience in the Championship, Prem and International wins hands down for me over what is purely a rookie.
  • Would never would vote for McCarthy. May be from Barnsley but he fitted right in with that lot, continaully defended both the players and fans when both were indefensible. e.g the riot against Derby, Van Den Hawue elbow at Newton, the trouble at the Valley in 93. Not a very nice bloke for me.
  • McCarthey is Wall enough said
  • McCarthy is Millwa*k
  • When I saw the match up I'd already made my mind up - Martinez, although after reading AFKA's summary my vote was swayed to Mr McCarthy. I think AFKA should apply to be his agent!

And Chris Powell played for Palace.

They are footballers, it is their job.

    Stupid argument
  • McCarthy? No. Too much history and I don't think much of his track record.
