Battle of the Number Two’s.
Pros – Both have worked with the best, and know what is needed to produce successful football. Both respected as excellent coaches, and both feel they have served their apprenticeship and are ready and eager to make the step up. Under Grant at Chelsea, Clarke was seen by many as virtually the manager.
Cons – Clarke has no No1 experience. Lee has only the short, disastrous spell at Bolton, though you could argue he was on a hiding to nothing post-Alladyce, and that he now has the advantage of learning from that experience and knowing first-hand how being a good No2 is very different to the manager’s job.
REMEMBER: You are voting on who out of the two on offer you would prefer to be Charlton manager.

Sammy Lee is regarded as a good coach but definitely as a player was more highly regarded than his actual ability suggested. Another who got to play for England by dint of his being a Liverpool player. As soon as they flogged him off - to QPR if I recall, he swiftly faded away. As manager at Bolton he was definitely a bit of a Les Reed/Brian Kidd - a good coach who couldn't make the transition from coaching players to managing them.
A case of one strike and you're out, as opposed to with Clarke into the unknown, but no proven failures against ?
if sammy lee got the job he would destroy our top scorer iwumelo's confidence by constantly beating him in the air during training.
disagree, i think big chris would foul him first to try and win the ball;-)
The successor to Allardyce was always going to be on a hiding to nothing rather like us with whoever followed Curbs.
You don't realise how good a manager is (was) until he's gone.
Lee was a good enough player to earn respect on the training ground and has served his apprenticeship as a coach. He just needs a suitable opportunity to make it as a number one.
too true len , too true
**shakes head in disbelief at the fall from grace charlton have suffered since sir alan left the club**
