Question....

Is it realistic for Jonjo and ZZ to play together as a midfield?

  • I'd like to see them play together first before passing judgement.

We shouldn't be expecting miracles from Shelvey, or that he'll play evey game.

I'd be quite happy if he only played two out of every three games next season, he's still only 16 and presumably still growing and needs to learn his craft. Having ZZ around can only be an advantage, ZZ was overplayed and had several mid-week trips to take part in internationals for China, and it was no surprise that he picked up some injuries. I'd hate to see Shelvey over-played and burn out, he'll have to miss training and matches while playing/training for the various England sides he represents, we shouldn't heap too much football on him just yet.

Completely agree about overloading Jonjo. However if he DOES play could he play with ZZ?

I've not yet seen Jonjo either.
  • I was laying awake last night contemplating our midfield!!! I really think we need to play 2 up front on most occasions and can't really see those 2 together in a 4 man midfield not yet anyway, Shelvey looks excellent but it's gonna take him some time to adjust to the hurly burly, not sure how he'll cope with the Hull and Stokes at 16 (mind you both could be gone to premiership).

I really think a new centre midfielder is the key to next season, I have no idea who (perhaps a Carsley type player) but I do believe they should work with ZZ I still maintain he's a class act. Shelvey and Holland will be great to change things around when needed. Not bothered about Ambrose, probably needs to move on after a season adjusting I think ZZ will be one of the best in the Championship next season.
