I wanted to publicly thank all of our supporters who gave me such an emotional send off yesterday. This has been a disappointing season but you all put that to one side and the team responded to your passion for the club with a spirited performance. If there could have been a script written for my last day it would certainly have involved Chris Powell, one of my all time favourite Charlton players, scoring the winner but what happened was even better than that. The fact Chris made a point of finding me afterwards and what he said to me will be a lasting memory of the day for me from not only a Charlton legend but one of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet. Add to that the speech made on the pitch by Richard Murray with whom I have had such a close working relationship over the past 11 years and then my name being sung by the north stand choir and you will understand perhaps why I am a happy man today and proud as ever to be a supporter of Charlton Athletic.Thank you all very much.

It was a privilege to know and work just a little with you.
Why am I not surprised that a CEO of the club comes on a fans site to thank them. Because this is Charlton that's why.

When all the muck was flying post Dowie / Reed saga, i made the point of emailing you to say don't let the moaning minnies get you down, that there were many of us that appreciated the fine work you had done for the club, and not to feel that episode should taint it.
I'm glad on leaving you have received the respect from the brethren that you deserved.
Look forward to seeing you in the North Upper !
Enjoy the break and many many thanks...
All the best with whatever you decide to do in the future Reg.
Au Revoir =)
It reminds us all what a wonderful club we have here. It makes me proud to be part of the Charlton Athletic community.
Good luck, Peter!
All the best for the future. You'll always be Charlton.
I had cause to contact you once on a particular matter and you replied personally and rectified it.
Nobody can ask more than that.
The two tiered Covered End stands as a tangible legacy to your efforts on our behalves over the years.
Thank you.
There is little I can say but to echo the thoughts of those above.
Good luck with all you turn your hand to in the future.
Live, love, laugh and be happy!
Thanks.
That wouldn't have happened back in the dark days before your arrival.
Cheers mate and enjoy your break.
Mr Waggott has got an almost impossible task to follow you. If at the end of his tenure he achieves half of what you achieved he will have done extremely well.
Thanks Pete as all the others say it is US who should be thanking YOU.
All the best in the future
Just confirms what I already thought about you Mr Varney, you really do care about us & that can't be said for many other CEO's.
But as most have already said, it is us who should be thanking you.
Have a wonderful break with your family and don't be a stranger.
C'mon you Reds!!!!
