Thank God That's Over

What a disaster of a season, I'm glad it's over. If we have learned one thing from this season I hope it is how to play in this division especially coping with the physical side. We need to get rid of so many players but obviously we aint gonna be able to offload them all or we will have no squad.
We need to start at the back and we need a strong central pair..McCarthy is too lightweight and weak to ever make a good centre half and gets caught out too often, slow and positionally very poor, he must go and a strong replacement brought in. We need a decent right back, I would keep Halford but we need to strengthen there, I think Basey and Youga will do OK at left back. We need a ball winner and a creative player in midfield. That's 4 new players that we urgently need, I think with a solid defence and a new midfield our strikers will come good. Spend well and get those bodies in Pards and then build from there

  • Can't really disagree with much in there Erik..

Was you not at the last two games ??? Do you not think Jonjo is a ball winner and very creative
  • I think he could be Uncle - he could very well be. But it would be unfair - and wrong - to expect too much of him next year. He's still just a kid and we wouldn't want to destroy him the way some other youngsters get destroyed when too much expectation and responsibility is thrust upon them too soon.

That said, if he can do for us what someone like, say, Fabregas, did for Arsenal then play him I say!

But what we shouldn't do is start comparing him to the likes of Fabregas - relatively speaking - too soon.

DAMN! You see what I've gone and done there?!!!
    :o)
  • Uncle Jon Jo will need bags of help next year. Holland is old and get get about. We need (if one exists) another Mark Kinsella. You may never have seen Kins but even in the top flight of football one of the best, could do what Parker could at his best but was a true leader and driver of the team. If we can find one and afford him then that should be our top priority. I think then JoJo could have agreat season. This is a very very hard(in all ways) league.
  • Uncle

few months back i worked in same place as a relo` of JonJo he lent me one of the England programes where JonJo played in. I thought it was JonJo`s grand dad? said he was a Jock but of course supported England when JonJo played. The guy had a tash. Ring any bells ?
  • Yes very fair comments but i think ap will find it quite hard not to pick him more than he thinks he's going to. I know its good to shelter them when they are so young but he is so mature for his age and has such an hunger to play. As for comparing him !!! I think its best not to try, i think he is just him and shouldn't be compared. I have seen kins and understand what you mean but still feel you only need maybe one good midfielder. Defensively though i think you are lacking. Ok i know they only scored one yesterday but they were very poor. The goal they did score could have been prevented if you had a leader in defence. I didn't really see one yesterday

Uncle i am with you with this one

i dont care he is only 16 from what i have seen on the TV for the england schoolboys team, in the youth cup this year and what i was told about QPR and Cov He is ready and age wont really come into it when youre good enough your old enough and he is Good enough.

Well played Jon Jo and well done Pards for realising he has had to play him when the season is done even though some of us have been saying it since the youth Cup games.

Sunderland had a great Centre forward playing for them and i am sure he got some prem or cup experience this season it really doesnt hurt to look and see if they can do it

Boys and girls for the first time in years we have got one a proper one a top draw footballer from our academy and i cant wait for him to kick in to the chumpionship next year
  • There is no doubt that Jonjo is a special talent and does get us as fans really excited. The first time I saw him play was in the youth cup came against Sheff Utd and I was exceited for weeks after that we had such a special talent.

    But

He is only 16, teams will target him and playing a 46 game season will have an effect on him. Bowyer was two years older than Jonjo in 95/96 and having been the corner stone of the team for the first 30 or so games he feel away badly towards the end but due to the small sqaud that we had and an injury crisis Curbishley had no choice but to pick him all the time, when had he been given a rest he may have been fresher for the play offs agaisnt Palace.

For Jonjo we need to have him in for some games, but ensure he is pulled out at regular intervals so that when he does play he is at his full ability and able to dominate games like he did yesterday.

This is all speculation of course, but what is certain is that we have a special player and we should be very happy about that.

So in conclusion his footballing talent comes from his mother's side of the family?
  • Thats where i am at with it all JH2 i would love to see him progress and by doing this we need to protect him but he is a special player
  • Gump dont fall to his level fella. I know a good few real Cretins and they are much better chaps than BFR !

I can't agree with your summation of the season Erik - it was disappointing, especially the last couple of months but I don't think two wins away from the play-offs is a disaster, not in my view anyway,

I also think we have a lot of good players at the club so don't need a massive churn again
I agree we need a ball-winner and creative player in midfield, and can't expect Shelvey to be a regular (he might be up to it, but at his age we can't assume he can cope with the pressure of playing to a high standard every game). I also agree we need to a new centre-half to be the first choice partner to Magic, but I am happy to keep McCarthy as well. With Moo2 at right back we should be a more attacking team. admittedly he is dodgy defensively but he can learn and all the more reason to get a new CH. I don't expect Halford to be worth, to us, the salary he is on, so unless Sunderland want to pay most of his wages then I don't see him playing for us again.

Also agree with your assessment of our strikers.

No are you kidding. All the footballing talent comes from his dads side really. He's dad is a great coach and runs really successful youth teams where jonjo started out
  • Jonjo's Dad's a great coach?

Tell him to ring the club. Pards & Parky could do with some fresh ideas ....... !

    ;o)
  • I completely agree with the comments made by JohnnyH2. Jonjo is a special talent and I am of the opinion after watching him in the FA Youth Cups at the Valley this season that he is up there with Parker and Bowyer as the best youth midfielder I have seen at the club. However, we must bring him on slowly. Palace are doing the same with Bostock and in the long run it will benefit both the lad and the club.

I'm sure Jonjo will go on to gain a full international cap (like Parker and Bowyer).
