The Standard has now been set

That's how I want us to play our football next year. On the floor, with pace, working the ball down the flanks and getting decent crosses into the box.

After Weaver, we now have the second piece of the spine in place. Shelvey is going to be the 'boy' to make us tick next year. I think he's going to be better than Parker and Bowyer. If we persevere with Varney and Gray up front with back-up from Dickson and Mcleod / Fleetwood or whoever and get a more commanding centre half in the style of Ryan Shawcross, for example, to play alongside Boogey (I'm still not convinced by McCarthy) then we have the basis of a team that can compete in this division.

The youngsters are the way forward and to back up Shelvey, Waggy and Basey et al, we need to bring through Racon and Moo2kill even more next year. The players that I don't want to see us persevere with next year are the likes of Iwelumo and Thatcher.

I was seriously considering not renewing my season ticket next year after seeing some of the dross that was served up this season but after yesterday's performance, I have renewed enthusiasm.

The future's bright...The future's Red n White.

I agree Shelvey looks a great prospect but let's not get carried away, a prospect is what he is. He is only 16 and will still be 16 when next season starts, we have to be very careful with this boy and I know the old saying, "if he's good enough, he's old enough" but we don't want to burn him out or risk ruining what hopefully will be a succesful career.

  •
[cite]Posted By: KenTred[/cite]agree more optimism after yesterday. i reckon pards needs to prune about 12 from the squad (halford, thatcher, powell(alas), sinclair, todorov, bent, faye, sodje, Gibbs, Walker, Arter, etc) and bring in two main men for centre half to play with Fortune or Bougherra (like a youds) and centre mid (like a kins)
Arter? Give the lad a chance!

Not sure any of our strikers we have are good enough to get us out of this division...
  • Gibbs and Powell have already gone although I hope that something can be done to keep Chris as a coach.

Halford and Sodje are loans so that will depend on their clubs and fees, if any they want.

Thatcher is out of contract and most likely on big money. I would guess it will depend on how much we can offer him compared to other club such as QPR. We have cover in that area.

Todorov is out of contract although I'd keep him as he is class above anyone else at the club IMHO.

Bent may well now stay will Wigan seeing as they have stayed up. Hopefully some money will come our way in return.

Faye was attracting interest from Blackburn so ditto the above.

Walker had already been sold to Southend when his condition was discovered so with luck we can resurect that deal.

Arter is still young enough to have an impact. Get him out on loan ASAP to see how good he is.

Sinclair doesn't seem to have made the step up so regretably lets see if we can get some cash.

    FOrtune seems out of favour.

Holland is out of contract and I'd prefer to see someone else come in to play defensive Midfield.

Thomas and Ambrose may attract some bids from Prem clubs

    Winger ZZ Midfield Destroyer Basey
