Waggy

edited May 2008 in General Charlton
Scott Wagstaff has made 2 sub appearances now in these last 2 matches.

But nobody's mentioned him.

Those at Barnsley last week and, of course, at The Valley today - what do you think?

Have we got another star in the making, like Jonjo and Count Basey?

Comments

  • Looked a bit light weight needs to beef up a bit.
  • Looked more nervous then jonjo but looks like he can beat a player, Great pace give him a few years could be a star

"......looks like he can beat a player, Great pace....."

That's what they said about Dennis Rommedahl..... ;o)
  • Fair shout, only time will tell
  • I'm only talking tongue in cheek. I love it when youngsters come through the ranks and break into the first team.

Jonjo is not only a cool head but big & physically strong for his age.

Look at Basey, physically strong enough to compete.
Waggy, maybe not fully developed yet - but hugely rated inside the club.
So hopefully his time will come.

Playing in a couple of 1st team games builds him up mentally and gives him that feeling of being capable of stepping up to the plate. Let's see if he's well involved in the pre-season stuff.
  • he needs to eat whatever jonjo's eating. really strong for 16.
  • In addition there's Arter, Wright, Aswad Thomas, Randolph, Elliot all of whom have played first team football or are expected to make the grade, plus a few others who aren't that far behind. I'm sure one or two won't make it for whatever reason, but hopefully there is the nucleus of our squad for the next few years in there.
  • I like him. Yes he was a bit nervous, or even shy, but he has good pace and quick feet. His very first touch was to beat his man with a neat piece of skill, only he ran out of pitch and the ball went for a throw, but the idea was there. It's harder for a winger to get himself involved in a game and that may have been a reason why, to some, he hardly shone.

I thought he worked hard defensively, at one time he pressured Schmeichel into a clearance, within moments Coventry were on the attack and Waggy had sprinted 80yds to get back and help out his full back. I don't think some our wingers have been doing enough of that this season.

Whereas Jonjo stole the show with an all-action display, I would like to see us persist with Waggy and if he has a good pre-season he is definitely one for the near future in my opinion.

Completely agree with that. Starting the game in centre midfield is very different to coming on as sub on the wing.

Think the inclusion of the youth, and the likes of Youga and Varney really added energy to the team today and has already made me think positively about next year. Typical Charlton I suppose, even after a terrible year, I'm already looking forward to the next season!
  • Very difficult to get involved today.Having seen him in the youth tean and reserves he deserves the chance to prove his worth

  • He's only 18, his time is yet to come, hopefully these last two games will prove to be good experience.
  • Unfair to judge him on Barnsley 2-0 down and a discoordinated performance by the team on the pitch. Overall impression is he needs to spend some time in the gym this summer, but has a great turn of pace which he used to unhinge the Coventry defence twice. Prospect for the future but not really ready for consistent 1st team duty unlkiike Jonjo who should be on the team sheet at the begining of the season
  • Too lightweight for 90mins right now, but looks to have potential and certainly worth a place on the bench
  • I think calling him lighweight is a bit unfair, he is the size he is and secondly he wasn't scared. He got smashed up in the air almost as soon as he came on and didn't let that rattle him. Denise would of been down for 15 minutes. Very quick and will worry a lot of defences in this league. The rest will come with more games
  • Oh I'm not slating him for it, but we've got to remember that there are a lot of big fellas in this division, and repeatedly getting flattened by them isn't going to be good for him physically or mentally. Bringing him on as fresh legs for the last 15-20 mins makes the most of his pace and gives him more match experience, but we need to allow him time to develop more upper body strength so he can hold his own when tussling for the ball.
  • Everyone loves to see a pacy winger who likes to and can get past the full back. Next season will be too soon for him I think. My guess is a full season loan at a Div 1 team. That would offer him regular 1st team games and toughen him up a bit. Looks a decent prospect no doubt.
