So pleased we finished on a high

edited May 2008 in General Charlton
So pleased for Chrissie Powell - a goal in probably his final match for us.
LEGEND!

So pleased that players like Basey, Shevley (sic - Beeb site lol) and Waggy have had a chance.

So pleased that we wanted it enough today.

So pleased that the Charlton crowd had something to cheer about.

So pleased that we actually looked like a football team again today!

  • big boost going into the next game of our pre-season...
  • I loved the game today! Everyone was in a good mood before (maybe all the pessimists stayed at home?!), there was no edginess to the crowd, the players were relaxed and played good football, our best two strikers finished the season with a goal each, Shelvey was great and set up the goal of the season, Matt Holland almost bettered it, Powell came on with a huge show of affection from the crowd grateful to give him the send-off he deserves ... he was in central midfield and scored with his shin - and virtually everyone stayed behind to applaud the team and I think we all went away looking forward to next season - even the away fans.

    Fantastic! :-)
  • Brilliant report, Salad!

If only we'd played like that in March we'd be at least ....... erm, 5th.

    ;o)
  • Nice one, Charlie_B. *thumbs up*

We're all Charlton. We're all one.

So pleased about having to agree with you one that Oggy. Now who says I never come here after we win.

You have to give Chrissy MOTM but I though Basey was runner up. Really commanding, linked up well with Youga and Varney who ran Coventry ragged and should have scored two more.

Shelvey - Didn't notice him. I was looking for a 16 YO who was trying to come to terms with pro football. All I saw was a man running at and past players with his head up looking for a pass.

If only we could have dispatched struggling sides like that all thru' the season but that's in the past now.

We finished well, there is hope with the kids and still a few more good players such as Moutilakill, Racon, ZZ not in the side plus whoever we buy.

I'd guestimate that that one result and performance plus that the kids were on the pitch has guaranteed another 1500 to 2000 season ticket renewals.

For purely footballing reasons my MOTM today was Matty Holland. Thought he had a cracking game. He covered every blade of grass, put in some great defensive interceptions, played some lovely passes going forward, encouraged Jonjo throughout, acted as Captain by pulling players away from confrontations, kept chirping away at D'Urso & had that amazing shot against the crossbar. Well played Matty. I, for one, hope to see you in a Charlton shirt again next season.
  • Great to see Matty get the plaudits he deserves,

    Good team player. Great pro.
  • Would have liked to see his shot go in what an absolute screamer...would have been a fitting end to his season, I also think he should be back, got a lot to offer patricularly if we are gonna be blooding youngsters next season.

I also thought defence looked decent, admittedly Coventry were a bit poor but Paddy made 3 or 4 brilliant blocks in the penalty area, great attitude hopefully if he can cut out the stupid mistakes he and Boogie could form a good partnership. Varney looked very useful he and Gray have a good feel about them one to hold it up the other to bomb past the last defender, great 2nd goal, best of the season. Shelvey looks very composed, can't believe he's 16.
  • Holland has to stay. Pleasing to see today even though having no pressure helped, that we played football on the floor for once, and looked good in doing so.

    Powell's goal was just perfect.

Pleasing that we go into the summer with a positive performance, after several disappointing months.
  • good to see Matty and Shelvey working like i hoped it would shame i missed the game
  • Yesterday was so good I even changed my mind about Holland and think we should keep him as long as he is not a regular :-)

By the way anyone know how Jonjo got his name (please tell me it's not because his dad is called Jon and his mum is called Jo!!!) ?
