Players for next season

edited April 2008 in General Charlton
A guy called Bob Miller is an avid addick based in canada, he has been banging on about Leicester and Canada's Ian Hulme, just seen him score on Sky, seems a box to box player - similar to Kinsella - not notoced him play though, any thoughts?

Who else would you fancy?

  • wanted him a few years ago when he left Tranmere, don't know how old he is now?

scored some cracking goals in his time
  • It's difficult to say without knowledge of the budget, and which teams will be in the division (Coventry, Southampton, Sheff Wed and Leicester all have one or two individuals worth nicking). Some of these might be out of our price range.

LW - Wes Hoolahan - Blackpool. Always gets mentioned on here as a potential target. He will be sought after by the bigger clubs in this division. Move JT on and get this guy in on less money.

CM - Michael Doyle - Coventry. We could do with a bit of steel in the midfield, and he's also chipped in with 7 league goals this season. 26 years old, Irish, energetic and can score a goal or two. Reminds me of a certain former CAFC captain when he was signed..

CM - Joe Ledley - Cardiff City. Way out of range I think. Will be a Premier League player soon. Maybe this summer.

CM - Brian Howard - Barnsley. Another who's probably out of our price range. A proper goalscoring midfielder. Only 25 years old.

There are plenty more where they came from, but I'll be here all day and my dinners ready..
  • i would have loved brian mcbride a few years back.
  • glad we got darren bent instead though.
  • nicky maynard, crewe better finisher than varney

  • now that colchester have gone down i'd go for johnnie jackson, a good left winger.
  • Palace, Norwich and Southampton's parachute payments stop after this season, so the harsh reality that we'll face next season (if we don't get promoted) could well kick in for these three sides. Only Palace (will pass on any player available) and Southampton have any assets in my view from these three clubs and Stern John could be a realistic target and regular scorer in this division (17 this season in a struggling side). Based on my shot at the BBC predictor, I've also managed to relegate the Saints, which if it happened would most certainly end John's spell on the south coast, wherever he'd be destind for.

Personally, I'd be scouting at Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Portsmouth's reserves and youth games with a view to 2-3 season long loans. Stoke, Wolves, Hull etc have all made really good use of the loan system by bringing in players from some of the Prem's better sides. Maybe bringing in players from teams that are struggling in the Prem, i.e. Reading, Sunderland, Fulham was a fair indicator that we didn't make the most of the loan system.
  • Palarses, parachute payments finished last season.

I was trying to say that on another thread, you've put it so much better than I did....spot on.

  • One advantage we have at the moment is there is only us and Derby who currently know that they'll be in the Championship next season with parachute payments, so we should have a slight advantage in transers as we can start now and get ahead of the game. Now we just have to hope that Pardew uses that advantage properly and learns from the mistakes of some of this seasons transfers.
