Just got back from the QPR game

edited April 2008 in General Charlton
Not really sure what to say - it was that bad.

This must seriously be the worst midfield we have had for years. We wouldn't have scored if we played for another 10 hours. Do we bother to practice pass and move during training, and who is in charge of set piece training?

It was embarrassing that our one shot on target from the Halford free kick was even cheered and laughed at by the QPR fans. I can't believe that players like Zheng and Ambrose are putting in displays like that - total disgrace and should be up there with the better midfielders in the league.

Don't know if anyone noticed the QPR bench was so much more animated than ours. Ainsworth got substituted and was standing with the manager driving on the team, showing real passion. Our bench was lifeless.

I'm not overreacting and I've given this significant thought before posting, but I honestly feel we are in serious trouble next season.

  • Pardew said;"We have worked hard this season, but it's been a season of frustration. There are some flaws in the side that we did not correct in the last window; we will in the summer.

    What planet is he on?
A totally shocking display. Does the team try to play to a plan or do they just adlib it?
If marks out of 10 were awarded added up they woud be lucky to amass 11 in total.
  • spot on Fish.........check out my previous post re-Reidy.

As for today.......it was so inept is was untrue. This was a side needing to win to achieve a top 6 place. To win means you HAVE to score a least 1 goal. So what do we do? decide to pass the ball around the back until closed down and then launch it 80 yards towards the corner flag.

We had 2 attepts on goal - Illwelumop's turn and shot and halfords free kick - halfords was the he only one on target.

Utter rubish. If we do not buck our ideas up then we have problems ging into next season.

We need at least 1 attacking midfielder ala reidy/Murphy/parker/jensen (pref 2) and a strong no nonense ball winner in midfield , ala Savage/bowyer etc.

without these 2 playerrs we are doomed.........oh,yes, i was right all along about Reid. Sell him at your peril I posted in late January. Oh, well.......at least we still have that £4m in the bank.
  • Oh no we don't. We're £4-5 million over spent this season I've heard. Pards will have a very limited budget this close season I think.
  • him and his scouts will have to work extra hard on youtube then.
  • heard similar Pavo... will be given peanuts plus what he recoups in sales
  • My brother in law is a QPR fan and we both went to the game - he sat with the home fans of course.

If you think we were bad, he reckoned that that was the worst display by QPR he has seen all season. That makes me feel even worse because I thought QPR played alright.

It did remind me of some sterile premiership games (without the class of course). Both sides pushed up on one another so that playing the ball around at the back was completely negated by the lack of space in the midlfield. Add to that the inability of especially our midfielders, like Ambrose, ZZ and Holland to actually pass the ball to a team mate or carry the ball foward. This mean't that our attackers were starved of decent delivery. If you also add a totally inept free kicks and corners we took, it was small wonder we failed to score.
  • was ambrose or ZZ wide or central?
  • Ambrose started in the middle with ZZ on the right. Varney came on for Cook, and went left wing, None of the four of them came up with very much, Ambrose went right when Zeng went off I think. Samedo came on later to do what he does, none of which is any help in an attacking sense. Overall it was absolutely putrid, we played like a relegated side. It's easy to get carried away and start panicking, but we have gotten worse as the season has gone on and there are no positive sugns anywhere.
  • This is more than a usual dip in form every side goes through in a season.

This is half a season of inept displays. Ever since Reid got injured is been slowly going downhill. We're in trouble next year. Make no mistake about it.
  • Lets be honest, when did we ever look like promtion contenders this season? 1st half against Ipswich and may be against Stoke. It was never enough.

  • we just havnt got enough points at home simple as. main reason in my opinion is our midfield its absolute sh*t strikers get f all service most games.
  • I don't think our defence has been good enough either. This isn't totally down Pards because we have had some injuries but there has been an awful lot of chopping and changing.:-

three right backs (two on loan)
four centre backs (one on loan)
four left backs (one almost drawing a pension)

    This doesn't make for stability.
  • You know what, I was decorating and didn't even bother having the radio on or watch/listen to the full-times. Found out the score by text from a Palace muppet that used to run my boozer.
  • I was at my daughters birthday party

Normally get mates to text me or nip to the car to check

    but not Saturday
