Comments

  • its true, they didnt, you couldnt even tell we were playing.
  • souless
  • Agreed....there isn't much heart apart from an ageing Matt Holland. McCarthy looks like he cares but apart from that can't think of too many left out there.
  • McCarthy may care but is below average not the player we want to go up im affraid.

nolly i thought you said Souness now he would kick them up the harris.
  • Well it has to be for at least 10/15 seasons.
  • gutless...........and a pr8t for a manager............too many charlie big potatoes over there
  • this thread will be overided soon, with pro pardews soon, harping on about footballs fun and enjoy the moment, its not fucking fun at all,get the palace div out!
  • Were better with ten men.................put it that way!!
  • Worst side we have had since 94-95 but at least some of that side had some triers.

I would honestly barely keep a third of that side that started today.

    Halford
    Thatcher
    McCarthy
    Boughera
    Semedo
    Cook
    Gray
    Lita

Should be dumped and never seen again in a red shirt in SE7.

Keep Weaver and the two keepers, Basey and Crabman, Moo2, Sam, Ambrose, Thomas, Varney, Iwelumo, Zheng and all the decent kids coming through, out the rest of them.

First time I have ever booed the team during the match today, and I have seen some rubbish over the years.
  • I'm sorry but if thats who you'd get rid of and keep I'm glad you're not in charge. For me the first player Id be looking to sell is ZZ so we stop thinking he's better than he is and get the right sort of player in the middle of the park.

ZZ would be the first player out of that whole squad you'd get rid of? Unbelievable.....guess the fact that he is likely to be voted player of the year doesn't amount to much. If he hadn't played as regularly as he has, we'd be in a much worse state, I'd be looking at the rest of the midfield before him. Holland great character runs his doo-dads off but doesn't offer any ability, Ambrose just hasn't put himself out enough, Thomas total waster, Sam decent not sure he's got enough ability, Semedo, very basic player. Still get rid of ZZ should be easy there will be plenty of Premier league clubs sniffing around.
  • Poor ZZ has got the olympics coming up i bet he is knackered.
  • zz for player of the year, unless we have a majority of chinese fans at the valley these days i doubt it very much, aimless player.
  • I don't think it's so much a lack of quality in the team overall - a couple of positions excepted, of course.

But the squad definitely lacks balance - and for the Championship, too physically lightweight.
And the biggest problem is centre mid.
  • Zheng hasnt played well since Palace but he is class when he wants to be, if you cant see that then we'll have to beg to differ.

I sat with head in hands when 'Super Al' (yes some people did sing that today) brought Semedo on with 15 to go and needing a result, Im sure he did that to take the piss out of us.
  • or since Reid left
  • has not played well since palace? thats not class then is it,you have a player these days for a couple of seasons and he has not played well since early feb, great!
  • To be fair fella, neither has the team.

I thought Varney looked ok today, but his last decent game was Palace.
  • i was not there,so well done for going,i feel for you ,they are soul destroying and there are much worse than zz granted.
  • WBA are not the most physicalside and they are top so you dont need to be but you must have better plans than we have, how many times have I read the team long balled up to big Chris with ice on and we are the footballing side.

  • Seen plenty of spinless Charlton teams over the past 7/8 years, especially from Feb onwards.
  • I stand by my comment about ZZ. Even when he was "apparently" playing well I couldnt see it. Im glad there are people who think he is great. Hopefully one of them will have a large chequebook and take him off us so we can get a centre midfielder that commands. He might work hard. Maybe. But I really cant think of anything other than his reasonable goal return for a midfielder in the championship that makes him stand above anyone else. I voted Madjid for my player of the year (I wouldve voted Reid) . Next season I cant think of anyone else I'd definetly pick in my starting 11.

I just don't think the team has any redeeming features - Over the last 30 years there has always been a few players in the team you cared about performed better than expected -

Flash and Killer Johnny H P Williams P Mortimer and on and on there were 1 - 2 or more we cared about - there are none in this bunch really - Powell excepted and I don't care for the manager either....

(Basey/Wagstaff/etc may bring this back on the playing side)
  • I'm not normally gobsmacked but Blackheath you've done me.

    ZZ is absolute quality.

I'd keep Gray I think he'll come good. Lita's not ours anyway neither is Cook who I wouldn't touvch with a bargepole - absolute cack. As for Halford don't get me started on him.
  • While I probably would be quite as harsh as Blackheath, i don't think that ZZ is anywhere near as good as some on here make him out to be.

I don't think that he is anywhere near consistant enough with 1 good game being followed by a couple of duff ones.
  • ZZ made the best challenge i have ever seen him make in a charlton shirt on sat, pity it was on luke varney

ZZ is a class player. However his one weakness is being physically lightweight in a physical division and he has faded of late because of that combined with playing far more games than he has been used to. Not to mention travelling to wherever with China.

Other than his physical presence there are no weaknesses in his game and some considerable strengths. He needs to be playing alongside a more physically robust player which, God bless him, Matty Holland isn't and neither was Reid.

ZZ is our one true Premiership class player. Others have the potential to become so and Ambrose and Thomas J can OCCASIONALLY play at that level.

I really hope we can hang on to ZZ and get the right type of player alongside him.
