LATEST POLL: Were the club right to part with Dowie ?

The main reason I put our relegation a few seasons back down to is our board not having the minerals to sack Roeder early in the season.
Once x-mas comes round it is too late. By then we were stuck rock bottom with morale none existant. We had quality in the squad, just as a unit we were a shambles. A new manager is what we needed.

How many times have you seen clubs revitilised by a manager coming in during the season, with players starting to perform to impress the new boss etc.

In all honesty, could you have actually seen dowie turn it around?

I think this could work out well for you. So long as you don't get hoddle in!!
  • Thanks Mortain- good to have a non- addick view.

If indeed this is the case, it takes a big chairman to admit he made a mistake with the appointment and do something about it!
  • Yes; I have felt from about game six that he was clueless. An example at Fulham tactically out thought by Coleman and his response was to late to change the game, also since he has become manager the defending has become worse than the last days of Curbs. But I will say that any new manager now has an near impossible job in keeping Charlton in the premeirship and that the club should be looking for a manager that can get us back at first try.
  • Yeah, record speaks for itself.
  • I voted YES, although from the little I know I don't think ID has been given enough time but I am willing to back Murray as he knows what was going on and will do the best for the club.
  • Upon reflection, I don't we can judge whether the club was right or not without really knowing what went on behind the scenes, which I'm sure that we never will. The club will let us know exactly what it wants us to know.

But my personal view is that this whole thing stinks and and Dowies sacking has more to do with things off the field than it does on it. I have always held the Board of Charlton in high regard but in my opinion the events following Curbs departure, leading up to the last couple of days does them no credit.

    Bent left angered
By: Dan on Mon 13th November 2006
Charlton striker Darren Bent has said he was angered and left frustrated by poor defensive errors during the recent loss at Wigan.
Bent, who has now seen his goal against Wigan chalked off and put down as a De Zeeuw own goal, has called on his teammates to cut out the errors.

"We came here thinking we had sorted things out," said Bent. "But we have to look ourselves in the eye and admit that wasn't acceptable."

"We have to cut out the mistakes, otherwise there's no point people talking about us being better than a bottom-of-the-table side."

This is the first time that Bent has vented his frustration, and without him the Addicks would be even further behind the relegation back.

Nice to see people nicking peoples quotes and giving themselves the credit for them.

    Sorry? Please explain.

By Dan, implies that Dan got the quotes, spoke to Benty and did the interview. Did he? or did he just lift them for a wire service or another site?
  • i honestly thought they would wait until the end of the season could not see the club admitting they might have made a mistake. If they feel they got it wrong then fair play for having the guts to deal with it but i cant see that it will make any difference to the season and if we go down do we sack the manager again. The last thing we need longer term is instability. One attraction for potential managers could have been the boards willingness to give people time if we lose that its hard to see us attracting people of any note.
  • i voted no but now think the board have done the right thing. if its true that bent wanted out in jan then i'm worried. he is the lifeblood of this team and it is unthinkable not having him in the team to help fight relegation, because that's what were talking about. remember what happening when we lost our last king pin (aka parker) the season went downhill well i dont think we can get much lower than where we are now. something needed to change and lets flipping hope it does, because im not so sure about bouncebackability for the fancy dans weve got in the squad at the moment. if they cant go away to the likes chesterfield for a major cup tie and show their class, then god help em in the championship. forget prawn sandwiches lads it'll be back to a rancid pie and a mug of hot beef on open terraces in front of 3000 at the likes of crewe, tranmere and port vale. oh happy days
