crazy to get rid when he can play decent wing as well, although to be fair he doesn't always deliver. I guess it really depends how much we could get for him and who we would bring in instead, I wouldn't be impressed if we didn't recoup his fee.
It seems a simple scenario to me, Pards simply doesn't rate him.
In fairness, he sees him more than we do, and knows more about football than we do. But i think he has been deserving of a lot more time in his preferred central role than he has got.
Lita i'm convinced is the best finisher we have at the club at this moment in time. Despite being a bit scraggy in the first half, i have also been impressed with his work rate. If we could secure him permemantly, i think he would be a huge player for next season.
I really would like to see those two given a game together.
For somebody who he said he really liked and would have even bought him for West Ham if he was still with them i find it very surprising that he doesnt rate him
Suppose what you see on YouTube is different from what you see day in day out though.

I really do wonder about your last comment there, sometimes.
My first thought on seeing the You Tube video of Moo2 was 'Shame he can't tackle as that's quite important for a defender...' It's taken our leader a bit longer to work that one out.
Varney clearly shows potential, pace, desire and not bad finishing either - he's a bit raw at times, and maybe can be a bit of a headless chicken, but given some good coaching and the right role in the team, I'm positive he's got a lot to offer.
Agree that Lita is a natural striker and has Prem class - wouldn't mind us keeping him, but not at the expense of Varney. Can someone remind me again what Gray offers, other than being a nice bloke and being able to trap the ball?
I think Lita is a good quality, hard working centre forward. Have you seen the way he backs in to defenders? Ok he's not big, but boy is he strong. I would not like to mark him. He really holds the ball up well. I do not see the point of playing him with Big Chris though. I really think he and Varney together would work.
Lita, with back to goal, takes ball on chest whilst backing into centre-half, knocks it sideways and Varney or Ambrose come in and blast it into the old onion bag!
Simple!
I dont think Luke will leave, but he has been subject to Tinkermans tinkering.....think he would look good for us on the wing, and would always chip in with a few goals. I think Big Chris works well with Lita.....he got quite a few good knock on headers against Wolves in the second half. Not sure we could afford another Hummer/Bentley driver (Lita)in the squad, so I think he will be off to pastures new in the summer. Gray hasnt set the world alight, and I dont think he will either, I see another Andy Jones in the making. McLeod out until Xmas...think we will need to find another Striker come the close season. Would love us to offload a lot of the dross and sign somebody exciting such as that Holligan bloke from Blackpool :-)

don't think Lita is on very much at all at Reading, that is one of his main gripes with Coppell, and certainly not outside our current wage structure. I'd play Gray and Lita with Varney out wide, he's better there than either Ambrose or Sam.
With you on Ambrose, he has lost it lately. Jury out on Sam for now. I heard Lita wasnt on much of a Prem wage, but I think with our £10k a week salary cap he still wouldnt be earning as much as he is at Reading.
No way we can afford to Keep Lita & cannot see Pards selling Varney either unless he has another Brain Fade moment which he has had far too many of this season.
I 'heard' there was a good chance he was moving in January, but this got dropped when he returned to the team. With him out again, i see it as the only likely scenario.
The big point for me was we had a must win game at home on Saturday, desperately needed goals to win it, and he went with Iwelumo. That told me all i need to know.

All just my opnion i'll add.
.........
A reasonable assumption, but bear in mind that Varney had been ill the previous week and missed that match, and perhaps had mssed some training sessions and in Pard's opinion wasn't 100% fit.
Varney was only just recovered from an injury? Pards obviously prefers Lita ahead of Varney but will either be here next year? He also prefers Thomas/Ambrose over Varney bizarrely with the latter.. I would agree if it weren't for his somewhat erratic approach to selection.
:)
Should add though that he and Thomas are probably our most saleable assets and we may be wanting to bring players in.

Spot on. Note the word FINISHER, which implies finishing off what someone else (i.e. the midfield) has created. Our supply to the final this season has been utterly shocking and IMO is the root of the problem.
It's not just one striker who looks poor, all our strikers have looked third rate - Lita included - and that's a lot of players. You can't tell me all those players have suddenly turned into bad ones. Yes a step up for some, yes new team-mates for others, and the odd one will turn out not to be the player he looked elsewhere, but all of them?
The best performances of Varney, according to Pards a while ago, was when he was given a free role.
Pards said he told him to "......play as if he was in the playground".
We saw how effective he was against Stoke and Palace, roaming across the field from wing to wing behind the main striker and not being picked up - and making penetrating runs from deep.
He's willing to make those runs and has a good engine. Play to his strengths, Pards.

Lita is bound to start tomorrow (god knows why) but he'll be off at the end of the season.
Every time I've seen him play I've been impressed - he could be our Ebanks-Blake. Yet Pards has hardly given him a run in the team.
I hope we're wrong.

Ditto on the Lita and Varney.

not arguing against lita but what are his stats to justify your comment, and what player/style would you compare him too?
I agree with the second part.

I really think he is off mate.
Is this a rumour you've heard or are you putting two and two together?

Thomas a saleable asset?? You are having a laugh. You'll be luck to get someone taking him on a free.
:)
