Pardew's play-off hopes

edited March 2008 in General Charlton
We have had 20 games 22 including the cup games since december the 8th and we have only won 5 of those so what chance do we have of winning the same amount in just 6 games, time to look forward to next year as this season is sadly over.

That's strange, I could've sworn that there were still a few fixtures left. Thanks for the advice though, I'll see if I can book a holiday now then.
  • I agree - leave out the loan players now and focus on 2008/09 season. Play 11 of these:

Weaver / Randolph (bring him back from Loan)
    Moo2, Gibbs / Monteiro,McArthy, Youga
ZZ, Semedo Racon - (bring him back from loan) or sinclair (our one!)or Basey
    Varney
    Dickson (when fit) Iwelumo

(Don't know when Magic will be fit)

Why acquire players from France and Portugal if they are not going to play!
The above should reflect next season's championship line up. My thinking...

Weaver may go so try Randolph; Moo2 Monteiro Racon and Sinclair must have been brought in with some purpose behind them.Thatcher too old

Also the youngsters doing OK in the reserves are going to be the future; there will be no cash next season; the 'creative midfield' player is a fiction of someone's imagination. Who is he? Why (if he is that good) would he want to play in CCC
with Charlton? Get real. It is all up to who we now have plus maybe a cheap / out of contract ex. star. be realistic!
  • Pardew has brought in players who he thinks are quality i.e. Montiero, Racon, Moo2, Semedo but who also need time to adjust to the British game. I think Pardew saying he wanted Racon to get games in Britain rather than in France and is a big part of his long term plans says it all. IMHO I think Pardew is building us a really sound platform to get out of the championship in the next season or two with astute building of a young squad. There is no real money for him to spend and to be honest I think he is doing ok.
  • [cite]Posted By: KenTred[/cite]agree with Mr Perth. Pardew should be building for next season if he is to stay. that means the dross loan players not playing, restricting him to those that will be here next year

We need to play the best players available until it's over, we can still make the play offs.
  • Which is evidently Mr Pardew's Meisterplan.........
  • Don't think we have the guts to put a string of results together now. In fact, I can't remember the last time we ever managed to win games when there was something important up for grabs. Not for about 10 years.
  • I think we are getting to a stage where we should give some of the kids a run out and those senior players that have not been given a decent chance. Lets get Randolph back from Bury and give him experience, whilst retaining Weaver as next seasons number 1. in fact anyone out on loan that can be brought back should be.
  • Yeh. Were safe from relegation and nothing else to play for. That Freddie Sears looks a bit useful for West Ham. Damn.

We are un contention for a play off place.

You're right. Im in a silly mood. Seeing us in 10th place today hurts. Got tickets for Plymouth. By the end of that game we should have a clearer picture.

    are you saying drop weaver?

Without him we'd definitely would have been f***** by now
  • We have no chance of the play offs. Build for next season. Do people seriously think the teams with games in hand will lose them and that we will win 5 out of 6? If so, what is that based on?
  • The form since Christams has been poor, but we have 6 games to go and are only two points of sixth place. This is not the time to be saying the season is over and time to look forward to next season. All the time the possibility of making the play offs is on we have to go for it.
  • I for one would love for us to make the play offs 100 percent yet the truth is 5 wins in 20 league games so what are the changes of 5 wins in 6 games
  • The best thing could be that we win the last game of the season against Cov and finish in 6 th. Then we could really think that we have a chance and we could all ride on the crest of a wave. 2 draws in the play off semi-final going through on away goals and then just 1 game to win. ;-)
  • I'd like the players to feel that they are no longer under pressure for promotion, start to play freely and suddenly get six wins out of six
