Charlton v West Brom - Match thread

  • McCarthy down injured, but Charlton advantage leads to corner
  • McCarthy receiving treatment, Gera booked, Ambrose waiting to take corner
  • Phillips is still absolute quality. He'd still do a job at Premier League level if given the right partner (young, quick, willing to work hard).
  • Sounded from the crowd like we scored from quick throw in, but Thomas fed Sodje for superb chance but he blasts over
  • Greening gets booked for challenge on Semedo
  • Dodgy offside decision against us

Both sides very evenly matched. Lita & Gray getting very little service. We are lacking creativity & drive through the middle. Thomas took a while to shake off the hangover from last night's clubbing, but has been getting more involved as teh game progressed.

    Hard one to call this.
  • Semedo booked...
  • Greening is a SCAB

Asking the referee to book a player.

    Unprofessional. Grow up you shit

  • 1-1 half-time...
  • Get ZZ on for the 2nd half.

We're at home, we've got nothing to lose at this stage of the season - wins are needed!

    LOL , LoOkie !
  • Hopefully Cook will get a run-out in the second half, his crossing ability is needed if we are going to successfully play Lita and Gray together.
  • Maybe even play right footed Thomas on the right hand side ...... ?

    ;o)
  • An Ambrose cross did though create our goal and his goal scoring record is streets ahead of Thomas, I'd be reluctant to sacrifice him to switch Thomas on to the right.
  • Shot by Andy Gray (Charlton) overhead kick right-footed from centre of penalty area (12 yards), blocked by Jonathan Greening (West Brom).
  • Charlton substitution: Jose Vitor Semedo replaced by Zheng Zhi (injury).
  • Leroy Lita replaced by Chris Iwelumo (tactical).
  • Ishmael Miller replaced by Roman Bednar (tactical).

  • Darren Ambrose replaced by Lee Cook (tactical).
  • 10 minutes left....
  • Kevin Phillips (West Brom) booked for dissent.
  • finished 1-1
  • Game over - 1-1.

Breaks our losing streak I suppose.
  • [cite]Posted By: KenTred[/cite]Did well to hold one of the top six teams.

Not bad for a side who are supposedly pushing for promotion and were at HOME!

Never seen such a one sided game in the 2nd half.

Played a lot worse before and won.

Watching on Sky, can't accuse the team of not caring - they dug in and battled.
Paddy McCarthy was an absolute rock out there today - immense.

Centre mid is still our weakness ...... we're not physically strong enough there for this league and we don't win enough balls or support. And there's very little going forward from there. It's a problem.

But we didn't really create and take the game to West Brom, not like a home team should.
If we don't create chances, we're not going to score are we?

Terrific strike from Gera that spun off the top of the bar late on, and wily strike from Phillips for their goal - but otherwise West Brom didn't really create clear cut chances either.

But a good contest between 2 teams who gave everything.

    ..
  • I don't think there is too much wrong with the team that an entirely new creative midfield would not fix. The reason why the strikers do not score is because there is not one midfelder in the squad who can play a killer ball or even manage to find their own player much of the time, Holland and Semedo do their jobs but the rest are not up to it. The centre-halves were brilliant today and a fullback scored our goal. West Brom were a class apart in the second-half. I had such high hopes for this season but it I was simply deluded.
