whats even funnier is he slated the palace fans and set up in the east anglian daily times saying Ipswich fans were the best in the world. Now he's on his way back to palace for treatment fingers crossed the physio will go easy on him.
He was a free agent, having had his Swansea contract terminated a couple of weeks ago.
No time in the transfer window for Newcastle to replace Carroll, and with Amoeba out long term, they needed to get an extra body in to make up their striker numbers. Only free agents can be signed by Prem clubs outside the window.
Plenty of Prem and international experience, big and strong.
So you can see the logic of their signing him.
They must have known it was likely Carroll would come in for some big offers in the window, you would have though they'd have a couple of targets in mind before deadline day.
Anyone else remember him coming on against us at Portman Road? We were getting hammered and he'd just signed for Ipswich. Got a massive reception from the crowd and then was stretchered off 3 mins later!

Remember it well. He was fat and past it even then.

I can remember during the game dreading him coming on. He was going to give them a big lift, score the winning goal, fans excited etc
How we laughted as he was carried off. I hate seing any player injured, but I was laughing so much I almost wet myself!

Not a very good signing, but he has been brought in as last resort back up, but if everyone gets injured and they rely on him to keep them up...
They can only loan players out, not in.

Emergency loan for a goalkeeper injury crisis has different criteria.
