The crowd today..

..,our supposed 12th man, was AWFUL today. Yes, we played very poorly but I have to say that the crowd is no help at all to the team at the moment in home games. I heard the first boo today after FIVE minutes. What on earth is that about??!! If I was playing for an opposing team I would relish the chance of playing us at the Valley. Unless we are 2 goals up in the first 5 minutes, the crowd gets on the back of the team & starts slagging them off. I have NEVER experienced an atmosphere worse than the one we currently have at the Valley. We all have to take our share of the blame for recent poor performances at home. The players must really dread going out to play a home game. We urgently need to sort our act out as well!!

  • there's no point in having a 12th man if half the other eleven haven't turned up...

Sorry, you do what you like, but blaming poor performances on anyone other than the players and management is just plain ridiculous.
  • or turn up once in a blue moon eh
  • sorry Pete but i am gettin piss** off with the fans getting the blame for totally inept performances.

I think you are semi-correct with this point. The problem this season has been that it is clear in the first five minutes which version of Charlton have turned up. Against Palace/Stoke/Blackpool, the committed and talented version were on show and the crowd were aware of this from the off and the atmosphere reflected it.

Yesterday (and against colchester and QPR especially) it was obvious from the get go that the team were not up for it and the crowd responded by getting nervous and stroppy.

You would think Pardew would realise that and give the team the explicit instruction tog o out and bang a few tackles in very early on to get the crowd going. Then, hopefully there will be some kind of feedback loop thing going one, where the crowd get going and the team responds, which gets the crowd going even more etc etc...

And as usual it was the north stand 'ultras' around me that started moaning and cursing before anyone else.

for once i agree wih northstand - can;t blame us fans. We turned up in our droves again and quite frankly even I couldn't bring myself to sing yesterday. The playes have to do their bit to get the fans going and we never saw any of that
  • THe atmosphere was awful ,but that goes hand in hand with another awful performance. It was just like colchester and QPR. There was lots of enthusiasm before the game with the debut of Lita, but it dissapeard after ten minutes when it was obvious that it was going to be one of those days. We never gave him one decent pass all afternoon, instead opting to aim everything at his head. I know you cant keep changing the team, but surely it needs a good shake up. come on Pards sort it out ,that was dreadful.
  • Can't blame the fans for yesterday, but they shouldn't be booing during the game.

but no-one's there at the end ;-)
overall i am of the view that the players should inspire the fans. yet on tuesday we were at home to top of table bristol city. i think we came out of the traps really well and went 1-0 up inside 10 minutes. a few stray passes later and the sigh's and condeming of players could be heard. imo on that occasion the players didn't get the deserved response from the fans.
  • This is a double edged sword. I hate booing - never have but I certainly felt frustrated and angry at the teams performance yesterday which was one of the most dis-jointed ones I have seen in a long while.

Fans are entitled to vent their frustration verbally but I wish we could be less like Tottenham and more like Man City in our approach as fans. I doubt whether yesterdays inept performance could have been lifted even if Billy Graham was giving one of his sermons.

  • Can't be doing with booing, especially during the first half, so I went down to the concourse after about 35 mins of the first half and stayed down there until the end of the game. How do people think booing during a game helps? Yes, boo at the end if it's been sh!te but getting on their backs during a game is going to do nothing
  • In the days of the huge East Terrace and crowds of 5,000'ish it is said that the players could hear individual comments shouted by the fans, so by all means shout to someone that they are rubbish but don't boo until the end of the game.
  • I only boo-ed at the end of the match - but SANG during the rest of it, unlike most of the 24,000 other "supporters"

where were the covered end ???????? Made a bit of noise for about 10 mins and then gave up -

The players should be out there giving us a performance, but sometimes the players need a lift too.I can't beleive how many of the crowd sit in total silence all through the game - bet they dont do that at home as most women & kids talk al the way through tv programmes.
  • Totally agree with the anti booing posts. I was embarrassed with the booing of a few mis-placed passes yesterday, what is the point. Halford did not have a great game, but do you think he will suddenly start playing better after every pass was met with a boo. Disgraceful really, I would rather have crowds of 20k passionate fans than have 25k made up of some of the "Charlton" fans that went yesterday.

    Spot on

We can only do so much they are the ones who get paid to play no us

In fact seen more passion watching Sunday football

It was interesting that after Halfords umpteenth "thwack" up the pitch the crowd grew restless and booed. Now in my opinion this wasnt booing the actual act of the thwack or Halford, it was the concept of the thwack. Pardoo has constantly insisted that we are a footballing team, he has brought in footballers, Sinclair, Cook, Moo2, Varney but then just stands there as we twat the ball up for our diddy men.

We played Varney and Lita yesterday shouting out for balls in between the centre halves. If we were going to twat it play Gray and Iwullumo, and come out and say that's what we are going to do. Don't play us for fools.

Id much prefer to watch Moo2 or even Long than Halford. I also cant believe that Racon has been no where near the team given some of the shit on show.

If Scott Sinclair is ready for first team football then I'm a dutchman ...

    Agree with you Riscardo.
Scott Sinclair more like Isla Sinclair ( Riscardo, you may not know who she is, as you are so young ;-) ).
When Pards did put on Big Chris he took off Halford, so who was going to pump the ball up to him?

Was Varney injured? I thought he and Matty were the only two playing in the first half. By taking Luke off, it left Holland as the only Charlton player to have a decent game.
  • Mr Golightly and I are not known for our boos and jeers but I must say it's hard to keep the jolly optimism going in the face of such a dire performance and such a bad atmosphere. We tried singing heartily but 2 lone voices don't carry so well in all that negativity. It's not like we're not used to it but it doesn't get any easier. I don't like the booing though and I hope Mr G and I never succumb to it. We go to support our team and will do that through thick and thin....til death do us part! ; - )
  • i totally agree with you red_pete!Its not that our fans are to blame for the performances, but they sure reflect our performance at the min!Total utter shite!Even against palace i think we were awful!Awful at home, awful away and an team playing awful as well! Not looking good and im the one who likes to take positives out of everything! Its not pards fault, its the fucking players! They need to get their fucking acts together the pre madonna cunts!
  • Its shocking!KInsella, robbo,super clive,keith peacock,eddie youds, jorge costa,greg shields!I miss those days!
Football is going down hill, way down hill!!and for what.....money!?
    its all depressing!

  • Nice post Riscardo....pretty much spot on in my opinion, surprised nobody has singled out Youga and Sodje, whilst not in Halford's league they both played really badly.

I think allowances have been made for Sodje's injury. I was really getting anxious when he didn't move a muscle for so long.

As for Youga he wasn't great, in fact at times like when Priskin got away he was awful, but he kept working and didn't hide and I for one respect players who don't hide when playing badly.
  • For what it's worth, from the ten minutes that I saw I still think Sinclair is a pile of cack and Youga bottling tackles is becoming more frequent worryingly
  • you lucky basstardo only 10 mins
  • Yeah, I tell you what though all those who leave 10 minutes early don't end up getting anywhere fast unless they are driving. There was about 50 CAFC at the station on the London bound platform talking on mobiles to people at the game. Madness!!

I think 81 minutes was on the clock when I got to my seat
