We almost got mentioned on University Challenge last week. Paxman announced that the next three questions would be about football teams that had finished runners up in the top flight but never won it, at which point I got very excited. Answers turned out to be Leicester, Oldham and Southampton.0

Don't know about this prog but remember that incident. One of ours was brought down in box but ref did not blow for pen. County player had his back to ref and just picked up the ball thinking pen had been given. Then the ref blew. One of the weirdest things I've seen at football. It was right near the end of match and made a difference to result - think it was 1-1 so we won 2-1 or we may have been 1-2 down so it gave us a draw. It featured banter and tensions among a small group of reporters for a midweek fixture against Notts County. No match footage is shown, but they refer to real events at our game vs County that season, including a bizarre penalty we got for handball when a County player picked the ball up, thinking the ref had blown his whistle for something.
I've never seen any footage of it since the original transmission, but in case you think I'm making all this up:

Although it's been done before I love this thread. As Monty Python said "the Meaning of (Charlton) Life."
Here's one for you. The south London hit-man in Gerald Seymour's "The Dealer and the Dead" is Robbie Cairns. There is a whole paragraph dedicated to the sports holdall he takes to the airport on his foreign hit - a Charlton bag with logo, including the sword, given to him by his dad after he won it in a raffle. Cairns was not a football fan although it talks about how easy it would have been for him to get to the Valley.
Absolutely no idea what the point of that para was....
Incidentally Millwall also get a reference earlier in the book but not by name, in the context a song, inaccurately referred to as: "nobody loves us but we don't care". They are referred to as an East London football team.

Watching the old London's Burning on Drama Tv...there is a made up Charlton Fire Station that gets mentioned a fair bit along with the call sign & name on side of fire engine...& in one episode playing on the tv you can here the commentary of a Charlton V Palace game....0

In ‘Smiley’s People’ (the book and the tv adaptation), George Smiley visits a fictional address in Charlton to visit a contact. I think the address was ‘Battle of The Nile Street’ and is meant to be down by the river. I think it was filmed down near Woolwich Dockyard.0

There is an old 40's Will Hayes film where he is stranded on a desert island and a radio floats by giving the football score Charlton 4 Chelsea 0 or similar, always made my Grandad laugh and I remember the clip quite vividly from my childhood2
