Confident tonight, or fearful ?

edited March 2008 in General Charlton
I suppose this could be the game that very much decides whether we are going to be in the mix up for the automatic spots come the end of the season. Our rivals all largely have winnable home games tonight, so a defeat could see the gap with the two auto places rise to 9 points.

I tihnk its easy for us to think we should beat Bristol City. We won at their ground earlier in the season, and on paper we have a considerably stronger squad than them. But they clearly must have something about them that most of us haven't seen otherwise they simply would not be where they are at this stage of the season.

I expect City to be honest, workmanlike, and quick on the break, similar to how we have tried to play away from home a lot this season. It very much depends on the Charlton team that turns up tonight; if it the team that played with desire and high tempo in the Stoke and Palace wins, then i can see us winning comfortably. If we are not at that level, then i think it could be a very frustrating night.

  • GAWD ONLY KNOWS DUDE, I JUST KNOW HOW BIG THIS GAME IS, AND CANT CALL WHAT CHARLTON TURNS UP! damncaps!
  • totally unsure how we will do

By recent form beating good teams and losing to poor we should walk it

But a we all know this is Charlton so god knows how things will go tonight.

I think this is a stage of the season where we need to turn it on (both players and fans). I only expected a draw up at Sheff Utd after the debacle that was Blackpool and was pleasantly surprised with the attitude, commitment and desire of the players at Brammal Lane.

I hope it is not unfounded confidence but if the players can bring the attributes they showed in the performance in Sheffield then I think we will have a comfortable win at The Valley tonight. Make no bones about it, we have to win 8/9 of the remaining games this season to stand a chance of AP. Six of those games are at home starting with tonight, if the crowd is patient, the players will perform. We've played well at home since New Years Day against the top sides in the league - there is no reason we cannot repeat the Stoke/Palace and first half of Watford game tonight. If we do then we'll win.

    Come On You Reds

I feel exactly the same way I did before the Stoke & Palace home games, hugely confident. Really think we are gonna see a performance tonight. Think Bristol's passing game will suit us. Fancy us against any footballing side in this division.
  • close game similar to Stoke is what I expect. A bit of tension but with more football being played than against Stoke. With Halford and Sodje will look a bit stronger and I'm looking forward to seeing Sinclair if he plays.

Pleased to see City up there as it shows that good managers working with their players and playing good football can succeed and they would be a breath of fresh air for the Premier League. DItto Plymouth. Great for their towns to see Premier League football.

If we go up with those two then I would be happy but then again I'll be happy if we go up full stop.

The team have been so Jekyll and Hyde this season that is impossible to predict any result - home or away!

We seem to be one of the few `prospective promotion' sides yet to have a genuine successful run this season - and we are quickly running out of season now! For us it has been a real roller-coaster ride with two or three good results followed by several poor ones and then back to decent results again.

If we can get some consistent form together the auto places are still there for us - but we have to string performances together on a consistent basis to achieve that and that doesn't seem to be a conundrum that Pardew has been able to solve to date.

So tonight's result is anyone's guess but has the potential to be the commencement of a successful run that puts us right into the mix!
  • under lights at the valley I feel NOTHING BUT CONFIDENCE ala Ketman. We are gonna smash these little upstarts from the the cuntry - DARE they visit South London's finest and attempt to win LOL

    COME ON.

Tonight is a big big game. Win it and I think we're very much in the hunt for an automatic spot, any other result and we've made it nigh on impossible for ourselves, it'd be another game gone and more lost ground on our rivals.

I'm actually pretty confident about it, the players must know that they need this to stay in the hunt and on their day they're definitely up there with the best (if not THE best) group of players in this league - let's hope the two come together tonight!
  • The lads will be pumped up for this tonight I think City may freeze
  • We will smash them all over the park resulting in a 3-1 victory.

Then screw it all up by losing to Preston on Saturday :-(

  • You're hoping for a lot if you think we will freeze. This team deosn't freeze - we still go chasing the game when others would look to close up shop and do damage limitation. So, if you get a couple of early goals you can go on and get a few - as Ipswich did. Otherwise, we'll sit back and hit you on the break cos we are very quick.
  • I'm fearful but that's a good thing.

We always cock it up when I'm confident!
  • I think we will win, then come Sat when were confident of a run, f@ck it right up as per
  • LeicesterRed, without knowing too much about your players, who should we have our eye out for tonight ?
  • Close encounter, but confident 1-0
  • I'm fearful of being too confident.
  • fearfully confident.
we seem to get better results against sides that try to play football.
as for preston and burnley, i'm confidently fearful.
  • Confident

    The valley underlights

Big crowd i think for tonight

    Andy gray's first goal aswell
  • I’m fearful of being incontinent....

Like most on here, think it depends on what Charlton team turns up!

either a 1-1 draw or 3-0 charlton win.
  • Under 5 hours to kick off and I havent felt this nervous about a game for a while. More important to me than Palarse.
Scouring Medical supplies websites in search of Incontinence panties which are available immediately. Oh shit too late.

Mcindoe, Sproule, Elliot and Basso!! Beware of centre halves who can do bicycle kicks in the box to score goals - aka McCombe aka Boom Boom!!
  • McIndoe impressed, though i think its more to do with the fact he stands out from the others in those ridiculous boots.
