I suppose this could be the game that very much decides whether we are going to be in the mix up for the automatic spots come the end of the season. Our rivals all largely have winnable home games tonight, so a defeat could see the gap with the two auto places rise to 9 points.
I tihnk its easy for us to think we should beat Bristol City. We won at their ground earlier in the season, and on paper we have a considerably stronger squad than them. But they clearly must have something about them that most of us haven't seen otherwise they simply would not be where they are at this stage of the season.
I expect City to be honest, workmanlike, and quick on the break, similar to how we have tried to play away from home a lot this season. It very much depends on the Charlton team that turns up tonight; if it the team that played with desire and high tempo in the Stoke and Palace wins, then i can see us winning comfortably. If we are not at that level, then i think it could be a very frustrating night.

By recent form beating good teams and losing to poor we should walk it
But a we all know this is Charlton so god knows how things will go tonight.
I hope it is not unfounded confidence but if the players can bring the attributes they showed in the performance in Sheffield then I think we will have a comfortable win at The Valley tonight. Make no bones about it, we have to win 8/9 of the remaining games this season to stand a chance of AP. Six of those games are at home starting with tonight, if the crowd is patient, the players will perform. We've played well at home since New Years Day against the top sides in the league - there is no reason we cannot repeat the Stoke/Palace and first half of Watford game tonight. If we do then we'll win.
Come On You Reds
Pleased to see City up there as it shows that good managers working with their players and playing good football can succeed and they would be a breath of fresh air for the Premier League. DItto Plymouth. Great for their towns to see Premier League football.
If we go up with those two then I would be happy but then again I'll be happy if we go up full stop.
We seem to be one of the few `prospective promotion' sides yet to have a genuine successful run this season - and we are quickly running out of season now! For us it has been a real roller-coaster ride with two or three good results followed by several poor ones and then back to decent results again.
If we can get some consistent form together the auto places are still there for us - but we have to string performances together on a consistent basis to achieve that and that doesn't seem to be a conundrum that Pardew has been able to solve to date.
So tonight's result is anyone's guess but has the potential to be the commencement of a successful run that puts us right into the mix!
COME ON.
I'm actually pretty confident about it, the players must know that they need this to stay in the hunt and on their day they're definitely up there with the best (if not THE best) group of players in this league - let's hope the two come together tonight!
Then screw it all up by losing to Preston on Saturday :-(
We always cock it up when I'm confident!
we seem to get better results against sides that try to play football.
as for preston and burnley, i'm confidently fearful.

Like most on here, think it depends on what Charlton team turns up!
