where our goals come from

with loans and injuries etc, this season has seen us use 8 strikers so far with 7 making their cafc debuts (only marcus bent not).
some have only played minimal games but iwelumo, bent, dickson, varney, todorov, mcleod, gray, and sinclair have scored 21 of our 51 league goals between them.
i don't know if that is good or bad compared to other teams, but it shows how important it is that the rest of the team has chipped in. this is something i was a bit worried about with, at times our midfield containing thomas, holland and sam, who hardly set the goalscoring charts alight.

who do you see as our best striking options.
i would go with what pards went with yestrday. big chris and varney gives the option of 2 or 1 upfront without having to change personel.

  • Agreed Paulsbaconsarnie.....Varney drifting in from the left or right seems to work ok. Im still not convinced about Gray, but there again I wasnt so convinced by Varney until he settled in. Its a shame that none of our strikers have emulated Baby Bent, but I guess they only come along every once and a while
  • I'm still concerned Pards hasn't brought in a proven goalscorer - esp now we have loaned out Mcleod.

this leaves us with just 3 front-line men. Pards has mentioned that Sinclair can play up front, but he has mainly played out wide & don't think he is big enough for a full on 90 mins up front.

god help us if 1 or 2 of the forwards get injured.
  • McCleod is on loan for a month, let's see how he performs whilst on loan,if he is scoring for fun we can take him back at the end of march. It only becomes an issue if we get injuries,as it appears he isn't in Pards immediate plans.
