effin ref!

edited February 2008 in General Charlton
what planet was he on ?

every time cook got the ball he was fouled and he only gave one . Their first looked offside and how did he not pull Shittpoo up for the various fouls yet give fouls for him when he is about 18 stone and kept falling over when touched by some of the smallest men on the pitch.

If the ref had have been Mr Singh today we'd have won 5-0

  • That's three people on here who have said the same now. Merson was generally a bit of a tit on the commentary and said at the end that the fans were only booing the ref in frustration because their own team wasn't good enough
  • what would that fat addict know about anything , he talks out his fat backside on their every week .

should stick to staying in round his mums
  • Just got back, we threw it away, didn't see that the refereeing decisions made much difference. Jerome Thomas should never put a chrlton shirt on again....tosser if anyone could look so disinterested I've never see them.

Share the same opticians as the ref?
  • No just trying to be an honest fan and admit when we let it slip, Watford are a physical side didn't see too much dirty stuff out there like Stoke, Hull and others have done. We got outmuscled all over the place 2nd half, that's the truth, easy to blame the ref when we lost a golden opportunity. Mad few minutes and lack of concentration let us down.
  • [cite]Posted By: Charlie Block[/cite]I would have to say by the performance in the second half we were lucky to get a point. If Middlewood Hospital was still open then IMO Pardew and the Charlton board should have been left to rot there after our inept performance at nearby Hillsborough. Quite frankly we don't deserve to go up.

Oh Roy, you do hate Charlton don't you
  • Two shit decisions and we get punished, and then every 50/50 goes there way, I'm suprised cause I didn't know we were such a dirty team.

Honest, or trying to do the 'realist' bs?
  • Calm down mate you see it how you want, I thought we played well, but threw it away, should have been all over, I'm extremely frustrated and dissapointed not being a doomonger, just don't agree that we lost because of the ref, we lost by poor defending.
  • I wouldn't have a problem if Shittu got away from his defender and score, he didn't he took a ride on his shoulders and the ref let it go, as the lino let O'Toole stand off side and score.
  • Well there you go, seems you have it all sorted, guess I'll have to wait and see some replays and perhaps I'll agree with you about those decisions.

  • I dont think Otoole was offside havent seen it yet though mind and still dont know Steve Brown on BBC london said he thought he was on side and it was cack defending, how did Shittu get to a free header 2 yards out was weaver fouled or was it Fortune.

i thought the ref was shocking may as well have put on a Yellow shirt.

If we have to play like that to go up then we should forget the football personally i would rather go up and play football when we get there. we had a number done on us in the second half fair play yes the ref didnt help but nor did we

on a plus dont cookie look good
  • But what about the corner that was actually the throw amongst several incidents?
  • true the geeza was a mug but we were at home and 2 nil up we let ourselves down and i just hope the ref doesnt detract from what was a piss poor first 15 in the 2nd half
  • All too easy to blame the ref - he wasn't good, but we still squandered a two-goal lead (official website's words...).

Couldn't see from where I was whether their first was offside or not, but thought they had a decent shout for a penalty for a handball in the first half.

We bossed the first half, and they came strongly back into it in the second.

We can moan about decisions, but at the end of 46 games we'll finish where we deserve to be.
  • all left i am with you there far too easy to blame the ref, ask yourself if watford would waste a 2 nil lead.

piss poor result whst ever way you look at it.

i thought we had a couple of lucky breaks with pens mate too be honest
  • I hope you have got both of them decisions right rothko coz m8 we didn't turn up second half.I didn't see a lot wrong with their second goal, the first one the lino went to put the flag up then put it down, but the cross was miskicked which may well have put him onside and fouled our defence. If he has got it wrong it changed the match,if he didn't get it wrong the way reacted to it was totally unprofessional. We are without doubt missing a out and out striker a la bent/mendonca.Varney seems happier running the channels and gray wants it to his feet to lay off (he did well for both our goals) but for me we just don't score enough.I was disappointed with our forwards second half, when cookie whipped the balls in gray went near post everytime with no one behind him.
  • steve been our problem all season why does no one go pen spot. have no problem with varney today and i thought the first goal was qualitythe ball from zz the flick from gray and the finish from ambrose.

yet we dont attack the ball enough as a front 2
  • I left the stadium today with the hump with the referee, not just the goals I just couldn't get him, and believe it or not I am not bitter because of the result. I'd like to see (I think) the watford goals again as I thought same as Rothko the first two men were off and second shitpiece used our centre half as a climbing frame.

Good things though is Lee Cook, Paddy Mac, Greg Halford, Luke Varney and Matt Holland, Zheng Zhi has set his standards very highly too and I can't actually knock the team. I thought Thomas looked disinterested thats the only sour part. ]

Oh and owing Medders an apple core

First goal they committed a sin you'd tell Henry's lad's Under 8s off for, namely not playing the bl**dy whistle even if it was offside which from The Covered End is hard to tell!

Second goal Shittu outmuscled Fortune I don't think it was any more of a foul than plenty of others that weren't given so no complaint from me for that one.

That said the ref gave them every 50:50 decision but that is still no excuse for chucking away a 2 goal lead.

At the risk of being asked if I'm Golfie in disguise play-offs at best now.

Good to have a brief chat to the Medway Massive afterwards.

    Rectory Field next week?:-)
  • Thomas is an arse.

Roy, how unlike you - a negative post slagging off Charlton.
  • [cite]Posted By: Reamsofverse[/cite]Ive been brought up in and around football and Im sorry but when you are 2-0 up at home in a must win game at half time your pre-match game plan goes out of the window, it all changes but today it didn't.

Yes you are wrestling with the temptation of getting that 3rd goal but rule 1 is protect what you have got.

We should have gone with one up front and pack the midfield but there was no Semedo to play the anchor man but couldn't Gray have come off for Cook with Ambrose slotting into the middle?

It was nailed on that Watford would come out all guns blazing but with no way through they would have pushed men forward in desperation and left spaces at the back for us to exploit and that is when you go looking for the killer 3rd goal.

Negative tactics maybe but would the fans there today have preferred a free flowing end to end second half with a point coming from it or a shut up shop mentality not pretty but with 3 points at the end of it.

For me the two points were lost in the dressing room at half time and because of that I had to sit and listen to that Im up Watford's arse Paul Merson.

Wonder how much he had on them?

What would you have done then Reams, put on an extra defender? I suspect Pards made the point to the players about keeping things tight. As it happens we almost scored a third before they got their first. I felt that the problems stemmed from our failure to clear the ball out of defence to our own players. This mean't we were often hemmed in. Against Palace, Magic and Paddy found a Charlton shirt every time but it didn't happen today. Some of that was down to the physical strength of the Watford players, some of it was down to the Ref who seemed to penalise any 50/50 challenges against us, but some of that was down to bad play.

I'm sorry you had to listen to Merson but I can assure you it wasn't much fun at the ground.
  • Paddy was very good today.
Fortune was his normal self ie. mediocre.
We missed the magic of Bougherra's recent performances.

Agree about the ref, absolutely awful but actually his decisions on the goals looked ok, awaiting confirmatary evidence on ITV tomorrow. What is criminal is that they get a corner from our kick off .. what is that about!!!! Crass defending - does not come close to describing it.
  • I thought we did a good job getting 2-0 up in the first place considering we were playing 12 men all afternoon.

Yes we're all disappointed, but the referee wasn't at fault for letting O'Toole run free from Smith's miskicked cross.

I don't know whether it was offside, and I couldn't see the second goal very well but it certainly looked like Shittu was all over his man.

I was very frustrated at the referee because every 50-50 went Watford's way and he played the game perfectly into their hands, giving them lots of soft free kicks within range of our penalty area.

We looked good at times when we played it on the floor, and even though we drew today, I've seen NOTHING in this league that suggests we aren't in the top two quality-wise.

Our consistency has been the problem all season, and will continue to be so until we can string good results together. Maybe this squad isn't good enough this year, but if we continue to grow into a team with a few shrewd acquisitions along the way, we can dominate this league next year if we don't go up.

Re: Reams' point, I don't think the problem was not going defensive, or shutting up shop, it was just a couple of minutes madness that cost us. The goals didn't come from breaks where we were pushing for the 3rd, they were goals that could easily have been scored in the first half, but better defending kept it out.

what, he couldn't even say "zed zed"?!
  • Fortune had the shirt I guess, but I would choose Sodje ahead of Forts all day every day.
