Car Repairs/Prices

Are there any car experts here?
My car is currently in the garage getting new brake discs & pads - does anyone have any estimates on the likely cost of this work? I am waiting a call from the garage, but, I thought I'd check on here so I could get a ball park figure!

I know for a fact that W J King charge their labour out at £99 per hour!!!!

How do I know? Well I queried a £225 bill to change a switch on the engine management system of my car. The part was £20 and the rest was labour....Bloody Bandits

It depends on the Manufacturer of the vehicle. French or German cars will cost far more for parts than say a Dagenham Dustbin counterpart. Also if you are going through a main dealer rather than an actual back street garage you will pay more. As someone mentioned above BMW or Audi technicians standard rates are £100 per hour. A plain old mechanic at a local garage will be much less for labour.

Where do you live and what make of car do you have?

I can highly recommend an independent garage in Blackheath who is reliable, charges reasonable prices and won't turn you over.

It's a Vauxhall Corsa and I've gone to a back street garage in Redhill

That won't be too much I'd imagine then..!

If trhey say they have changed this or changed that DEMAND to see the old part.

If they can't show it to you say you refuse to pay for it.

I know a very honest garage in Plumstead if you need one, and labour rates are much lower than the above mentioned.

Well I have just had my first estimate for a replacement Bonnet & scratched bumper/plus labour with an audi approved repair workshop for my S3 and they want £1,500. They must think I was born yesterday. I have rung up Audi supplier & new bonnet is £140. Have now decided to sort out myself without going through insurance as my Excess is £550 anyway, reckon I can repair it myself with help from family in the trade for a bit less than that.
