Big night of Championship football ahead

edited February 2008 in General Charlton
What games should we be concentrating on, and how do we want them to go ? Are we looking at those above us, or those on our tail ?

  • Everyone in the Top 6 should win so we should only concentrate on ourselves tonight. ;-)

That being said, with the FA Cup this weekend, if results go our way tonight, a victory on Saturday could see us top of the league!

  • Blackpool v Wolverhampton, 19:45 Home win Keeps Wolves below us
Colchester v Preston, 19:45 Home win hat trick for super Kev
Coventry v Cardiff, 19:45 Coventry win one for Iain
Crystal Palace v Ipswich, 20:00 hard one - Draw or away win.
Norwich v Hull, 19:45 Norwich just cos I don't like Hull
    Plymouth v Barnsley, 19:45 Draw
    QPR v Burnley, 20:00 Draw
Scunthorpe v Bristol City, 19:30 Home win obviously
Sheff Wed v Charlton, 19:45 err, away win?
    Stoke v Southampton, 19:45 Saints
    Watford v Leicester, 19:45 City
West Brom v Sheff Utd Robson saves his job
  • Wednesday are currently suffering from a serious lack of confidence which reminds me a bit of Scunthorpe to be honest. Huge game for us tonight, cannot bear to listen to it so will not turn telly on till 10.00pm. Don't give a sh*t how anyone else gets on, it's all about us & so it should be every game for the rest of the season.
  • palace v ips a draw will do nicely

watford , west brom stoke and b.city anything less than them winning will be a result for us but i'll be disappointed if we don't pick up 3 points tonight
  • Anyone else see QPR making a late play-off charge ?

Also see Wolves being in the mix come the end of the season
  • I think Naaaridge will come good myself....dont care who wins or where as long as we keep on winning. Let others worry about us.
  • of the top 5 I can see Stoke and West Brom being held to draws, although I can't Leicester causing Watford too many problems. that said as long as we win it keeps pressure on those above us, especially with three of them still to come to the valley.
  • Watford are a funny side, i back Leicester to get something tonight. Ditto Scunthorpe.

Really feel we can be right back in the title mix after Saturday.

(though i have said that about 6 times already this season)

Would never describe Watford as Funny, agricultural maybe. I am still convinced we will win the title.

  • Think the top 4 will win so it's vital we do too.

A draw between palace and ipswich will do nicely.

Other than that, not really bothered about anyone else, as if we keep winning and picking up points, teams from 8th down have no chance of getting close to us.

Agree with AFKA about QPR, only 6 points off the play offs, have bought solid players for this level, and could go on a run. Don't think Wolves will make it though, too inconsistent and don't score enough goals. Averaging less than 1 goal per game isn't going to get you promoted.
  • I keep waiting for Bristol City to slip up, but they just keep on producing the results. I had them down as a team that would start running out of steam before now. As for us, I have a feeling we'll be looking at saturdays game and will struggle to get 3 points (mind you I say that everytime we play a team in the bottom 5)
  • I think West Brom will give Sheff Utd a tonking and Robson will get the bullet shortly thereafter.
  • And what on earth are those mugs Hull doing on our tail??

I have a hunch we'll still be 5th after tonight.
  • Not worried about the teams around us - if we maintain our form and limit the number of Scunthorpe like slip-ups then I'm convinced we'll make the automatic spots......
  • Amazing that Hull and Burnley are both only one win off a play-off spot. Shows what a crazy league it is. Leics have the best defence and are one win out of the relegation zone while West Brom have conceded as many as Sheff Weds.
I fancy Wolves could get 6th spot if they can start scoring a few goals.

If we can win 2nite and Ipswich and Palace draw then a nice little gap could open up between 5th and 6th.
  • I reckon we can scrape a scrappy one tonight and get a 2-1 win and i could see watford slip up and by close of play saturday us and them could be on level points.

I still fancy us to go up automatic
  • Can't believe Stoke are shorter odds than us to go up. We're 9/1 and i think thats good value as we play all the big teams at the Valley, and if we can get a win tonight i'll be even more convinced.
  • I'm with Ketman, just concentrate on ourselves.

Although of course i will be listening- can't do the head in the sand bit.....
  • I have a feeling Stoke will drop points tonight, but everyone else in top 6 will win.

  • I'll have a pint of what Henry's been drinking......
  • bristol city might slip up,scunthorphe are no push over.
  • it's so tight below us that if any of the teams from 6-12th position go on a 7-8 match unbeten run, they will probably cement themselves in the play-offs.
same as us and above. if any of the top 5 don't have momentum going into easter they could easily be the ones making their way out of the play offs for the form team(s).
so close that if ipswich lose tonight (please draw), they could go from a play off place to 12th.
  • Im almost as nervous tonight as I was on Friday.

Despite everyones confidence its getting to that part of the season where I start looking at other teams results as much as Charlton. We have not narrowed the gap for some time as occasionally a Colchester or Scunthorpe performance pops up.

I dont know why but tonight feels massive.
