Can you buy CAFC tickets without a Red Card?

edited February 2008 in General Charlton
Hi

Am I right in thinking that you cannot buy individual match tickets via the CAFC website unless you have either a season ticket number, or some sort of Red Card/membership number?

As someone who's applied countless times for his 'International Red Card' without receiving it, the club certainly likes to make it as hard as possible to watch one's team on an occasional basis.

Thanks, NYA

  • If only we had a supporter's director to sort out these kind of issues...
  • Try emailing info@cafc.co.uk and they will forward it on to the correct department to be resolved for you.
  • New York.....have you a purchasing record with the club? If so you can tell them when you ordered tickets and where they were sent and they will usually send you the desired ticket. Ive ordered a redcard along with one for my partner and my son....the latter two came today, but not mine...I assume they will arrive shortly...they were sent out on Friday so as none of the deceitful little Nigels got there hands on any.
    :-)
  • Thanks.

It all seems a bit over-the-top to avoid the (very) occasional risk of away fans infiltrating the home stands.

The club's keen matchday pricing presumably attracts the occasional supporter, yet the website gives them a signal that they're not welcome which doesn't seem very clever.
  • There are no restrictions on buying tickets for most games - Palace was an exception - and when you buy the first one you become a Red Card member anyway. Problem solved!

If there is text on the website that is misleading then point me in its direction and I'll get it changed.
  • The link here for example (https://tickets.cafc.co.uk/TicketCheckout.ink?matchid=4270&standno=2&Block=K) requests verification via a season ticket no. or membership no.. If you then click on the link to either, it states clearly that:

"Only Season Ticket Holders and Members can buy Tickets On-Line

To ensure that away fans do not purchase tickets in the home stands during matches at The Valley, we only sell tickets to fans who are either Season Ticket holders or Club Members.

If you do not provide a valid/current Season Ticket number or Membership number we will not process your ticket order. If the number proves to be false we will not process your order, even if your order appears to be accepted by the club web site.

Any Season Ticket holder or Member who purchases tickets for others who later are deemed to be away fans will have their ticket purchasing rights revoked."

Whilst it was possible that the order would have been accepted without either a season ticket or membership no., the above caveat makes it clear that I wouldn't have known if my order had been accepted or not!
  • Thanks - I think is a hangover from the FAPL and I will investigate. But the game is definitely on general sale.

We are about to implement a new online booking system for Red Card holders (including season tickets), but will continue to operate the existing system for those without a Red Card number, so it cannot be the case that we don't sell to the latter.

Hopefully the information in the new set-up will be more useful!
  • Great thanks.
  • The Palace game was the only game I know of in recent times that I have been unable to buy a ticket without a season ticket or membership number. For most home games I've been able to buy tickets over the counter however, I've needed a membership card to make online purchases. I had a problem for the Palace game, I lost my red card so I had to borrow my Dads season ticket to buy my ticket.
  • As someone who is also awaiting my international red card, I bought my tickets for this year's opening match through the CAFC web-site without any issues. I plan on using it again later this season if I can get back to the UK, so I would appreciate knowing if, for any reason, it does not work for you.
