I thought we were f**ked when Herman came to take the penalty - expected it to go out for a throw!
NO CHANCE!
Hermann with a nice left foot placed shot - expected to blast, but concerved his energy for a Lua Lua celebration - but did the roll in a standing position
I haven't seen the goals so I can't comment, but Carson has been beaten once/twice at the near post. He's a great young keeper and will improve and be an england keeper for years to come but two areas where I'm critical are his ability to position himself and command his area. These things though will come right with time.
Maybe specifically in these cases the swapping of Fortune for El K was the problem.

I wouldn't blame Carson for any of the goals from what I saw on the telly. The first was our defence sleeping and not stopping the near post corner. The second was Fortune letting the chesterfield player get in front of him. The third was Diawara taking the decision that he didn't need to mark his opponent and instead thinking standing there looking at him was the better option.
Didn't enjoy that much but we won and that's what matters. In the QF at last so it will become a "I was there night". Dowie is a legend ;-)
We were poor while Chesterfield gave us no time at all to play. They were a decent team but we gave away two soft goals from corners and we had few chances. We never dominated but were on top in extra time. Faye had his worse game since joining (and I'm a big fan). M Bent!!!! Fortune!!
We looked much better with Darren. More movement = more space. Thomas was a threat and JFH did what he did to us when playing for other sides eg not much and then score two well taken goals. Should have had a third.
Positives. Diawara, Carson, Ried playing 120 mins even if not very well, JFH's goals, Thomas getting fitter, Saltergate a reminder of what football grounds used to be like.
Felt we would be OK with the Pens as we have Carson. Lets hope we can keep him next season as well.
Southend or Wycombe (never been there) away in the next round please.
JFH has had a bit of flak this season but he stood up to be counted on a Tuesday night at Chesterfield. A lot of "big" (and I mean status rather than botty size:-)) players wouldn't have fancied it so credit to him.
I'm delighted that we've made club history by getting to the last 8 but just hope that extra time and the nervous tension of the shoot out don't take their toll at Wigan. We need something up there!
can you believe some people were still giving him stick 5 mins before the end of extra time saying he was lazy.
i mean, people were within their rights to say it after 10 mins when he was trotting around, but trotting around for 120 mins must have taken a toll on him!

Concentrate on the league- but great for morale!

Phew, bring on Sarfend
Pfffffftttttttttt!!!!!!!!
Phew, bring on Sarfend
Could you believe it though ?? With the delay on the radio, i think they had actually equalized by the time i'd sent it !!
Cue press about how unserious clubs take this competition now, yadda yadda, yawn....
Reid's fitness should have been done no harm
Ditto Jerome
Bent scores again
JFH two goals
Carson's saves!!!
Negatives:
3 goals from set pieces
Fortune?
Diawara's handball
It shouldn't have taken penalties to win
So what does Dowie do ? Offer him outside.
Should of done him ID !!
Phew! Hopefully it's another morale boost for us.
You are joking right - surely the draw is Thursday?

I wasn't optimistic when I heard it was HH, but... soddit, we're through. Sounds like it was a bit of a test of character.
