Test Run at the Oak on Friday to get served quicker.

edited February 2008 in General Charlton
Speaking to the landlord in the Oak the other night. In order to get the beers out asap they are not going to serve top shelf drinks and drop the beer price. Like they do in certain big pubs on match days.

There will be no top shelf drinks. Just the following:

Fosters
Guiness
London Pride
Strongbow

All at 2.50 a pint.
1.25 half pint.

Bottled lagers/magners etc normal price
And all white/red wine
Minerals/Cokes

What do people think of this? I can only think of one mate who only drinks shorts in a pub. Its just a one off on Friday to see how it goes and get you all served in double quick time.

Oh and KEEP HOLD OF YOUR GLASSES.

  • And buy two at a time its a winning stratagy! And get out of the way quick smart!!!
  • As an added suggestion, perhaps set up a table by the dartboard selling bottles/cans of beer?
  • That's interesting, and good to know they are looking at ways to speed it up.

Of course the quickest and easiest way to speed things up is to add extra bar staff, but that would be far too simple.
  • I only drink vodka, so I'm screwed.

I reckon it'll slow it up with people confused as to why a pub can only sell certain beer/drinks on a match day.

i reckon it'll cause a riot. my lot are less likely to want to drink there friday as they drink strong lager.
  • I dont count but he says there is usually 10 bar staff behind the pump - perhaps anymore and its detrimental to actually being able to walk around the bar. tho i dont look to see if its overcrowded im normally concentrating on getting attenion of the nearest pourer. therefore by cutting out having to go for glasses, ice and lemon, vodka/whiskey etc it should be a slicker operation... they will have someone permanently pouring guiness as well.

Well its a test run if it dont improve any then people can go back to gettin a spirit.

spirits etc will be served after the game.

Will mention your idea Sco. perhaps out of the kitchen may be?

you drink wine as well i thought. i think its only a test run and if it pisses people off then im sure they wont do it again. just for friday.
  • there is an easier way of getting served quicker, just go to the bugle.

    lol
  • They had pre-poured Guinness in Bartrams at the last home game.....good thinking
  • well fair play for giving it a try. May lose a lot of long term custom if they drink other things though.

Would suggest having some clear signs above the bar to save the 30 seconds worth of 'we're not serving that' with every customer.

  • yes of course the signs will be up saying this.

Im sure they will get the gist if people are pissed off about it and wont happen again. perhaps the only thing is the strong lager.
  • I'll be thinking of youse from Prague
  • [cite]Posted By: Rothko[/cite]I'll be thinking of youse from Prague

Disgracefull missing 'THE MATCH' of the season :-)
  • hehe, I know, sinful.
  • Suz - bring a hip flask cheaper and just by coke
    Stone - good idea
  • Pre poured Guinness the dirty bstds theres no need for that.

What if it was guinness xtra cold it would be warm the money grabbing harrods feckers

Breakfast must really set you up for the day!
  • Damn, I was gonna drink in the Oak as well.

    Hate Fosters though.

Dont have a plan B, only ever drink there or the Doom and Gloom.

Sort out a bit of Krone on tap as well and we'll be there.
  • Fair play to any attempted speed up, but 2 or 3 extra bar staff who know what their doing would be the best solution......and not run out of beer like the Stoke game is also advisable.;-).
  • Extra staff would seem the obvious move. Can't remember if the fruit machines are still on the right as you walk in - if they are perhaps a better location could be found as that is a bottle neck.

  • well like i said, there is 10 he reckons an thats all that is possible to work behind there without everyone getting in each others wasy. but who knows, i wont repeat that bit again.

I dont know, im just glad they are trying.

i will ask about the super strength stuff.
  • B, surely they could just get more staff?
  • shut it.
  • lol,

please point out when i was waiting ten minutes for a pint before the Stoke game, they only had 4 serving at the time.
  • BTW, thanks curb_it.
  • allday drink up for me
  • I drank wine in the oak for the first time on that tuesday, because I was only having 2 glass before the game. thats the only time i've ever drunk wine at a match!!! i couldn't drink wine on friday and only wine as the landlord will have to carry me to the game.

I've got my car this week, thats swaying me towards driving friday now.

if they can serve soft drinks they can chuck vodka in it.
  • From my visits there, it seems to be the fact he's employed slow staff who know little about serving alcohol quickly, rather than the number of them. Not long after it re-opened, one bloke didn't know the difference between tonic water and lemonade, and didn't know that Magners was served over ice in a pint glass.
  • Curb it, I'll have a pint of each if you get there before me!!!
  • That big pub in Blackburn had it sorted. Sold cans from behind the bar for a sensible price. We were buying 8 cans in a round I think, and we were in and back outside within a couple of minutes...
