For those that went to scunny

I believe there were quite a few Lifer's there.I would be interested on your views, that's not taking away anything from those who didn't go,but I would be interested to see if their views differed a lot from mine.

  • good day before and after the game.
crap game and not a good atmosphere from the 1100ish? cafc fans.
imo the only players that can lay claim to putting in a "performance" are weaver, macarthy and at a push holland.
  • In short, we were awful.

Frosty old pitch, tight League 2 ground against a team of battlers who weren't going to give us a second. In a Curbs phrase, we simply 'never got going' and never got a grip on the game. When a few opportunities did open up near the end, we didn't have the quality in the final third to make it count.
Player wise, Youga was probably our pick, Weaver did little wrong, and Holland played his normal game. The rest though were distinctly average, while after recent improvement, Bougherra and Moo2 looked naive defensively.

Very disappointing and in hindsight we put too much positive emphasis on the Stoke performance.

Its gone now and there is no point dwelling on it too much. We need to start looking ahead.
  • Good drink up before and after the game but the game itself was truly forgettable, which is exactly what we should do and move on.....just don't play like a bunch of tits on Friday.
  • A good weekend away if you remove the football element.

As others have said, we never got going. Youga has been getting more and more wound-up in the last few matches and will now start picking-up cautions (was lucky not to get one against Stoke for kicking the ball away). Thomas seemed reluctant to do too much - kept laying off the ball for Youga to get forward and didn't take his share of the corners. Ambrose should've realised he was having a mare and let others take the dead-ball kicks.
  • we were shocking, simple mistakes made up and down the pitch, when we were breaking the final ball was too soft and at the back we lacked composure and the ability to compete.
With them having horsfield up front we all knew it was goin to be a physical game and i think both centre halfs struggled with it ehich worries me for friday considering palace will play the same way. I also feel we lacked pace and ideas in the final third with no one willing to take the chance on, mo2kills chance for example for me was a sign of players low on confidence and passing the responsibility.
Myself and the people i spoke to felt no player could actually say they put in a performance, i thought all of them were very poor.
As for Bougherra's clearance and them he pretending to be injured, it was disgusting. I also noticed he ran from our 18yard box as the final whistle went instead of turning and clapping.
On another note i am bored of hearing Pardews poor excuses, about the pitch and out muscled and the ref. The ref was poor but no worse than our set of players and we cant expect to be helped out by the ref we need to get results ourselves.

Lets just hope we have that out our system and he lets the players know just how much friday means

Football interrupted the drinking a bit.

A truly awful game, i was thoroughly bored with our lack of invention and inability to do the simple things well.

Its all well and good Pards saying that we have to play the top 6 at home but we can play these teams, beat them and so forth but it will mean sweet FA if we can't back up the performances with results at the so called lesser teams like Scunthorpe.

I was hoping after Stoke that we would go on our fabled long run but it hasnt happened so we have to stick with it. Games are running out and WBA/Watford may pull away and i am now edging towards the play off scenario but still plenty of twists and turns i think.

I keep hearing things from people who werent at the game and Pards himself that we missed loads of chances - not sure if it was me but i can't remember any decent chances maybe until the last 30 seconds?!

    Up the Addicks.

(nice to meet you Steve, Tel & anyone else who i may have met on Saturday)
  • everytime bougy makes a mistake he lies on the floor to deflect the attention feckin embarrasin mate.
  • [cite]Posted By: northstandsteve[/cite]everytime bougy makes a mistake he lies on the floor to deflect the attention feckin embarrasin mate.
when he fell over in the center circle it was hilarious - we didnt know whether to laugh or cry!
  • i know, but when we have weaver hobbling around after he done his ankle in and still committed and bombimg forward for the corner, you just hope that bougherra would be enough of a man to just get on with it rather than being a prick.

I know Izale is not thought of very highly on this board but surely you dont wait until the 88th min or what ever it was to bring him on???
  • agreed izale should have come on earlier i also thought we took Varney off too quick.Izale played a lovely ball into big chris who's first touch let him down.

  • So come on then chaps don't hold back now Bad was it on a scale of 1to 10 ?
  • I think the sooner you bring on Mcleod the earlier it is that he will miss chances. Needed to go out on loan at a club level somewhere between MK Dons and us to get some matches under his belt and rebuild his confidence (or profile).

Just a purchase that has gone wrong.

10 mate - seriously. (10 is shitty shitty crap crap by the way!)

Atmosphere was crap, and some of the songs and attitudes of certain people was atrocious.

We didnt create any of these amazing chances that the media and Pards seemed to see plus AFKA and myself walked 2 miles up a hill to get back to Scunny station.

The train the pubs were great the game for us a sad 10 from me
  • a big fat 10,what happened with one of the youth gettin thrown out it seemed to change the atmosphere amongst them.
  • We were poor, they weren't much better, spawny goal wins them the game. The rugby was worse
  • at least a 6 maybe a 7 but not as bad as a 10. ALthought remembering that they had 10 men bumps it up to 8.5 at least.

We never got going and I don't remember this flood of chances. We did have a goal disallowed from one of our few good moves.

£1.29 for a bitter of old Brewery was good as was watching Bucksee watching the Scunny girls on their way to a night out in Donny.

There were a few good songs but as soon as they scored it got stupid and purile.

Saw Maglor and a loads others of CL up there. Tel-in-OZ must have been a few yards away and didn't say hello.

That's it. No more away games (until Burnley)
  • What I dont understand is

    Ground Capacity 9088
    Saturdays Attendance 6084

Now where the hell would they fit in another 50% more fans or put another way 3004 (is that about the size of a Jimmy Seed)

Or are the other 3004 places for whippets.
  • Had a good day out as said elsewhere, was nice to meet a few lifers too...Thanks to Afka for the introductions. Drab game, but enjoyed the pub and the friendly locals...pretty poor 7 for me, 10 to the so called fans to my right...and youth they were not.....

  • disgrace Sam and Ambrose offered no width Majid needs to sort himself out big Chris needs to let the oppents centre halts he is around and rough them up a bit and we are clearly far to complacent againest the lower teams this result and atleast another four could prevent us going up,had a heavy booze with a few of the boys before the game so much so me and my mate where so brewed up went in the wrong end and ended getting escorted round a better atmosphere in the pub before the game than in the ground and why did we not elect to shot towards our fans in the second half?
  • Good news for OhahMortimer is that we took more to Scunny than Palace or QPR and they were also both on Saturdays.

    "Our Support is F****** Great" : - )
  • u suprised about that then Henry

    No
  • Pards is probobably right about where the definciencies lay; we seemed committed, but had hardly any quality up front all game - how often did we STRETCH the keeper? Agree with others; only acceptable performances came from Holland, Weaver (without really having saves to make), McCarthy, and Youga. Right side of defence was laughable in 2nd half, ZZ got out-muscled (it happens), and not one advanced player made an impact.

Biggest disappointment for me, after an encouraging game v Stoke, was Andy Gray. Ball never stuck, never really threatened (offside goal aside), and a worrying lack of aggression. Surely that should be the least he brings to the side, esp. v a physical team like Scunny. Do it against Palarse, Andy, and we can overlook this one.

Sometimes these kind of games leave you really angry that the players just couldn't be arsed. This wasn't one of them, but worryingly, we simply weren't good enough to hurt them.

The best sum-up of the lot.

    You're still slurring your words!
  • whether this is right or not, the atmosphere turned in relation to boredom and irritation with the pure garbage on the field

if we'd have taken that game by the scruff of the neck properly and gone in there, forced the pace, played our own game and not the sterile crap that we did, that had the potential to be a total party for an away day... shame it was more of a wake on the way home

    ey oh, bring on Palace...
  • This was an awful game! The Bash street Kids against the KeyStone Cops and guess who were the Keystone cops, howmny times did a Charlton player under hit a pas or pass it straight to a Scunthope player Boughera and McCarthy the most profligate. How many times did a Charlton player fall over when trying to kick the ball including weaver. How many touches do you need to have in front of goal before thinking about shooting, and what did Moutouakil think he was doing.
On this performance and those against Colchester and QPR we will not get into the play offs let alone automatic promotion, what does Pards tell them before these games against the bottom clubs I hate to think.
  • Poor poor game

but i still enjoyed the day out though another ground ticked off. I do think we had 3 -4 good chances to score, with Moots,Ambrose,Iwellumo,Mcloud all very guilty of bad missues in the second half.

    the kids enjoyed it ithink

must admit i did enjoy the

    Alan Pardews having a party
bring your vodka and your charlie

    very clever boys very clever
