The previous trip to Scunthorpe ......

edited February 2008 in General Charlton
Were you there? I went up on the Lewis coach to the Old Show Ground.

The OS mentions, you have to go back to the 1972/73 season to find the last time we went to Scunny, with Charlton winning the (old) Division Three game 2-0.

Keith Peacock and Bob Curtis found the net at the Old Show Ground in February 1973.

Any others on here who went to that game?

  • i was just born.
  • So you probably weren't there, then? ;o)

You could have seen your 1st Charlton win.
  • I was there with my dad. Lewis's coach from Woolwich. Can't rememberanything about the day though except it was a bleedin' long journey. Away trips in those days used to take forever as the coaches never used to go more than about 40mph, or so it seemed.
  • If you were on the Lewis coach that day - there was only one Lewis's coach for that match - then we may even know each other...(!)

And certainly we would remember many of the same people.

I'll start you off: The driver would have been Eddie Cecil ......and your 'appy curryer' big Chris Slattery ........., and
Les Turner singing Beatle songs plus all the old Covered End classics.

And the regular "I found the ground at.......Wrexham/Shrewsbury/Rochdale/Halifax, etc" competition.

Because we always drove around the town for ever, before someone on the coach finally spotted the signs or the floodlights.
