Share Holders AGM

edited January 2008 in General Charlton
Missed first bit but briefly:

*if a very good bid came in for a player we would consider it. Murray think ZZ has been our top man and unlikely there will be a bid for ZZ as we hold his work permit (sounds like tarficking to me !). Although Reid might be our best player "he would just like to see him play"
* Womans team cost us £350,000 a year to run. or did do in old format.
* One player would be going out on loan.
* They believe there are only 2/3 teams in Prem that do not have a big fat daddy pumpin money into the team. The way forward is to get one or take your chance. Like Derby.
* Wigan paid us a "loan fee" and pay M Bents wages totaly.
* Toddy out all season and out of contract at end of season.

  • cheers for the feedback
  • anything about Dowie? Was gonna go but need to save my time off.
  • The Dowie issues rumbles on and is in no way resolved.

Despite being awarded costs by the Court, Jordan hasn't paid and is contesting how much they are. This hopefully will be resolved in the High Court on 26th Feb. Jordan has paid an amount into the Court.

Our 'profit' from the Bent transfer was £11.3m.

We 'pushed the boat out' for Gray - but he is who Pardew wanted.

Some issues with Greenwich Council over the planning permission for the East/South East stand - mainly to do with the housing side of the development. The council want them ofr use 'by CAFC'.

We have unsuccessfully appealed to UEFA with regard to the 3 Club rule for Faye - though he is still in training with Blackburn. He has 1 year left on his contract.

We could have moved the Palace game to the Sunday with a 11am kickoff. Police are VERY concerned about the fixture and there will be a high police presence not only in and around the ground, but on all transport routes to and from SE7.
  • how dire did he say our financial position is.What was said on the sale/re financing of the club as it seems to have gone very quiet?
  • was more interested in a statement about what really happened but I guess confidentality agreements will prevail indefinitely. Planning application sounds positive looking to the future, any sign of new investment/investor?
  • my take is if our financial position was as dire as what some of us had been led to believe, we wouldn't of been splashing out up to £2m on a new striker on decent wages.

If it is then we have been remarkably foolish, and given the mistakes made over the last 18 months you would of hoped they haven't added to them.
  • Calculated risk.

If Gray gets 10-12 goals before the end of the season and we go up then we make our money back tenfold.

I dont mind us going into the red now as we know there are saleable assets in May if we cock it up.
  • it was an interesting purchase in the sense that it means he has a game plan/strategy about the balance the team. Still a bit bemused about the lack of doing something about the poor service our forwards get.
  • Financial position could be stronger - it's not easy making £16m of cuts, along with 42 people made redundant in the summer; hence the demise of the womens team.

There will be some more 'internal' investment in the Club very soon, but to me it sounded as if this was to just help the club 'tick over' rather than progress. From the little wry smiles from the existing Board, I would think that there has been some interest in the Club, but then it's up to them to decide whether it is right or not for us.

It's up to the Board to sort uot the finances and gamble as and when necessary - I do get fed up every year being told how much the current Board have invested in the Club - Richard, we know what a generous benefactor you and your colleagues are, please just don't keep telling us.

Interesting to see Michael Grade there today - but no Martin Simons (despite him having to be re-elected today).

Never got to speak to RM about my £18.9m lottery win over the weekend, still there's always next AGM.
  • Oh yes, and a lovely bit of totty was going round with the roving mike. ;-)

    True, but not as fragrant.

Besides, he was too busy harrasing our much maligned shreholders.
  • who did it this year?

Our beloved Fans Director last year and Suzi this year.
  • I'm more concerned about the potholes.
  • U mean Suzi was on Mic duty ? and i missed it ! thats what geting there late does. still next time ill bring DA9 and when he gets the mic it will be"old hound dog" or something. Better than going on about pot holes or droning on about the womans footie or if we had 5/6 strikers.

it was a lame attempt at mic duty. I tried to give the mic to one person, he didn't want it, and then it was deemed they were loud enough anyway so i stood up the back and just listened.

  • Did anyone mention having the South Stand as a home end?
  • potholes?

The 'wonderful old character' who turns up at every AGM and who always moans about smoking at matches, language at matches, people standing up at matches, fans gesticualting at matches etc etc still managed to ask whether the smoking ban had improved sales at the kiosks at home games and after being encouraged by her 'partner' decided to go off topic this year and complain about two potholes in the West Stand car park that she considered to be dangerous and that the club would be liable if someone tripped over them.

She's as mad as a hatter and is simply not interested in football as I've never heard her ask a question about the footballing side of the Club.

As an aside - the builders of the North Stand are refusing to resurface the West Stand Car Park as part of the works (their temporary portacabins and the moving of them caused the potholes) - though why we just can't take the cost of resurfacing out of their retention sum I don't know.

Does she have grey hair and very dark glasses?
  • Grey hair, dark glasses and dribbles a lot.
  • That will be the Dreggerlands.
  • [cite]Posted By: guinnessaddick[/cite]That will be the Dreggerlands.

I'd rather see her as part of the activities at Diggerland :-)

Much better. Pitiful attempt this year ; - )

Is that their name? The lady is Swiss. They managed to keep the "eccentric" quota up considering that Richard Redden wasn't there.

Murray seemed to be getting slightly frustrated with the shareholder who thought we had too many strikers especially when he kept counting M Bent as one of them.

    That was her husband.

    Always great comedy value.
