Walker Deal Off

edited January 2008 in General Charlton
OS reporting that James Walker failed his medical and the deal is off.

What a shame for the lad.

Hope that it's not something serious.

Just goes to show that while some are moaning about the club and OS being slow on the news because Southend had already annouced the deal as done sometimes it is better to wait until the deal is signed before announcing it.

  • Southend jumped the gun, on their website he has signed, he 'should' be playing on saturday and he features in their squad list.
  • shame for the lad, hope it fires him up to prove them wrong. Hopefully, Yeovil will be back in for him.
  • Yeovil have just signed a striker.

It is a shame for the lad; it was a good opportunity for him. Now he has the stigma of damaged goods which will not help him, nor will it help our clubs finances. Southend should have kept their mouths shut till it was a done deal.
  • It is a shame for the lad ....... but without our knowing what the problem is, it doesn't mean his finished - just that something isn't quite right. After all he's been playing regularly for Yeovil right up until the deal.

Luke Young had a similar knockback after failing a medical at West Ham - but he's still playing at the top level 2 seasons later.
  • From the BBC site:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southend_utd/7186815.stm

Charlton striker James Walker's £200,000 move to Southend fell through because the 20-year-old was found to have an irregular rhythm of the heart.
BBC Essex says Walker, who had signed a two-and-a-half-year deal, told the Essex club previous medical tests had revealed a similar problem.

But a consultant at Southend Hospital told chairman Ron Martin his condition should be monitored for three months.

In the meantime, he should cease all football and training.
  • That's terrible, poor lad.

    Hope he is ok.
  • after Phil O'Donnell you have to be so so careful.
  • Still Asa Hartford had a pretty good career after the hole in his heart was discovered.

I would have thought in this day and age, that part of the clubs regular fitness checks would reveal a problem with the heart rythm.

I thought he was at Middlesborough!!
  • yeah sad for the lad but shouldn't messa round with heart issues.....
