Time wasting

edited November 2006 in General Charlton
Great to see Scott Carson "doing a Weaver" and wasting every avaliable second. In front of their fans too, although I bet the irony was lost on them!

Best one was where Corradi went to put the ball down on the left hand side of the goal for our goal kick only for SC to point to the other side. When he put it down there SC picked it up again and went back over to the left. PRICELESS!!!!!

  • He was superb yesterday Carson, we needed all of those timewasting seconds.

I've been wracking my brains, but i can't for the life of me remember what Weaver did to wind us up so much. Was it from the one we won 5-0 ?
  • The 1-0 in the Championship season, he was giving all second half to the Covered end
  • I bet Weaver didnt realise why he was getting so much stick.

Thought he took it well and good on him to give the covered end a clap at the end.

And the song with the c word was a little unnecessary in my opinion.
  • LEEDS loved a bit of time wasting! What was it with the Leeds players hitting the deck after every challenge. Embarrassing really.
  • Not only did they hit the deck at every opportunity, but they also waved there physio on at the same time too. They ref simply wasn't strong enough to take control of the situation and Leeds realised this.
  • Yes I noticed the waving on the physio too. They were also going down when there wasn't even a challenge, which makes it look like a deliberate tactic. Horrible to watch, but that wasn't what won them the game.
  • Well to be fair he booked 2 players for time wasting and asked for a new ball when their fans took the match one.

I'm not convinced it was just time wasting, because they totally broke up our play using this tactic. Every time they lost a tackle they went to ground; not only did it waste time but stopped us in our tracks. Referee Quincy Magoo was so incompetent that he fell for it every time. I don't blame Leeds for this, they spotted a weakness in the inept referee and went for it.

I said this last year. How many times did we break away last year for the opposing team to commit a foul and take the yellow card? Not only does this break the game up, it also allows the defence to be 11 v 11 instead of 3 v 3.

Leeds were street smart on Saturday and we were not.

  • Charlton are masters of time wasting. That's why we finish at 5pm every Saturday. Trouble is, we do it when we're losing.
