Memories of Watford away

edited January 2008 in General Charlton
any particular special ones here ?.

Watford was my first ever away game. Would of been around 1990/91.

Remember disbelief at having to walk all the way round the allotments. Remember Steve Brown getting that really bad injury.

Remember a little fella kept wriggling under the fence, running into the sterile area and giving the Watford fans the finger, then wriggling back under about 4 times. On the 4th time, the coppers managed to grab his legs while the Charlton fans grabbed his arms and a massive game of tug of war kicked off.

Remember two of North London Addick's lot having a fight on the train on the way up there, getting challenged by a few Watford after the game, and then another one of his mates having a fight with a ticket inspector on the way back. I was only 15/16 at the time and remember thinking, Christ, are all away games like this ??

  • LOL AFKA i remember all of them the tug of war was crazy and as north londons brother i was trying to forget some of those away games thanks mate.
  • Walking through the olotments, and that mascot thing walking round inthe 90s throwung lollipops into the crowd only for Chanrlton to start to bombard them back with at him
  • 'm sure the tug of war fella's name is Lloyd.
  • those were the days lol. Remember being tanked up in the red lion with my mate andy and trying to get in the home end as the alotments was to far to walk only to start singing at the turnstiles and getting escorted around. Then andy sleeping it off at the back of the away end lol
  • The other one i remember was a couple of charlton youngsters in one of the pubs playing darts with a couple of watford lads and getting hussled out of about 20 quid. I went over and as some people know i play a bit of darts and winning the kids there money back and taking about 50 quid off the watford lads they wernt happy but thought twice about doing anything as there was a few of us in the pub that day.
  • Remember in the 80's, Nicky Johns getting an injury when we were 1 up and playing on. Mark Falco clattered into him 5 minutes after the injury occurred and Aizelwood went berserk (I think they both got booked) Ended up losing 4-1.

Was also there in the 90's and there were a load of us in the pub who couldn't be bothered to walk around to the away end. A couple of us went and got tickets (about 25) in the home end. The dopey bird at the ticket office asked if we were home fans "of course we are" and then only charged us for about 15 tickets. Happy days!
