[cite]Posted By: Southendaddick[/cite]Without starting another away support thread, if we dont sell out on Saturday we are a joke.
Well it's been started now hasnt it...
Who exactly is "a joke" if we don't sell out? The fans? The club?
Instead of branding whoever a joke maybe the people that go should just get on supporting the team on the pitch without slagginf off fellow supporters with chants such as:
"loyal supporters" and "where were you at West Brom" and the like.
We should just accept the fact that away support is not that good and i don't think that is going to change dramatically in the near future.
Loads of different reasons why people cant go especially at this time of year but if we cant muster 10% of our support for a game on the other side of London against one of our main rivals at £1 for kids, then I am sorry, that is a joke.
[cite]Posted By: Medders[/cite]I'm going but can't see it being a sell out.
1. It's on TV
2. It's a few weeks after christmas
I'm not going for exactly those reasons. Number 2 obviously meaning i'm skint.
But i'd like to add
3. I've been to Watford many times so would rather save money for other away days.
4. I'm going to Scunthorpe where the train and ticket has already cost me £53 before i leave my house.
Rather than people making digs about our away support being a joke, accept that it will never be brilliant and there are many good reasons why people can't go.
Well I'm there with Chirpy jnr and Chirpy even more junior.
To go to an evening KO on a Saturday when it's on the box is completly ridiculous if you ask me. However my boys are so keen I don't want to discourage them.
We may go to Barnsley too.
[cite]Posted By: F-Blocker[/cite]No matter what state the pitch is in (unless it's a complete lake), this game will take place - the SKY money will do the talking.
When was the last time a live SKY match was cancelled without any other match being available to switch the coverage to?
It's happened at least once in the past couple of years - Cup games, I think.
You only get those sort of things when we sell out the away end and everyones tastes cannot be caterd for.
If you don't like who you are sitting with on Saturday I'm sure they'll be room to move.
The main incident I saw last year at Watford involved some large ginga giving verbals to the bloke behind him. Don't who the redhead was but looked familiar......;-)
"Wasn't Watford away last season the game where the Charlton Chav element abused the likes of Large's Old Man?"
There was a lot of infighting yes. A lot arguing with other fans claiming they should get behind the team more and sing. People arguing about standing as it was such a big game etc.
Then people calling others scum as they were not dressed in the same way as them i.e a Replica Shirt.
The infighting is prevalent whenever we sell out an away day. The one that made me chuckle a few years ago was when I got an earful for standing and I offered to swap with the people behind to be told 'why?, these are our seats'!! Crazy.
I didn't hear or see people being abused at Watford last season. Saw some pisshead asleep behind me though!!
Can't please everyone I'm afraid, and as an awful lot of our fans seem particularly hard to please a sold out away is probably not the place to start.
However as I'm not going due to having to DJ a young ladies party I will wish all those hardcores the best of luck and to scream they're lungs sore for the cause.
(PS screaming ones lungs sore in encouragement is what I meant)
[quote][cite]Posted By: Ledge[/cite]away games are a thing of the past for me until I pass the knowledge. Wife has to work the saturdays when we are away so I got baby sitting duties.
i will be doing one away game before the end of the season as my boy wants to do one so just deciding which one. Probably Ipswich[/quote]
Christ, Ledge, Ipswich away might not be the best choice given their home form.....
Comments
No bad thing, we'll be knackered, although Shittu is out for them.
I dont know regarding tickets but if there are any left expect another comment like Pards last night, and good on him I say.

And I have never sung those chants.
We have to look at the reasons why the support is not great at these games rather than branding it a joke in my opinion.
Can we actually get a better support away from home without crazy initiatives or do we just accept that our away support is crap?!
I'm not going for exactly those reasons. Number 2 obviously meaning i'm skint.

The referee makes the decision. No one else.
Unless he's Italian of course....... ;-)
The thought of those types of confrontations may well put some people off as well as the financial considerations etc mentioned above.
Football is meant to be an enjoyable experience: confrontation and abuse is not enjoyable for decent people.
