West Brom and Watford away

edited January 2008 in General Charlton
Two massive away games within five days that are likely to shape what season we will have.

A win at West Brom will see us with a good proper away day in the next round, and a very realistic chance of getting to the fifth round.

A victory at Watford will see us pull them right back alongside us in the table and keep pressure on the top. A defeat will see Watford extend their gap on us to seven points and could see us up to ten behind the leaders.

So how do we go about ? Strongest team for both games, alternate the squad for fresh legs etc

well i'm not going to either due to work and a weekend in Wales organised by the missus.

"Well the weekend's for you honey so we can go and watch Charlton if you want"

Therefore we'll win both and i'll see everyone for the defeat at Stoke and the giant killing at Peterborough.

As for team selection, i wouldnt change a winning team and try to keep the momentum going.
  • Not bothered about West Brom personally and, although he`s bigging it up in the press, I doubt Pards is either so I'd expect a few changes tomorrow.

Watford is massive though and I can't see beyond the starting XI against Blackpool.
  • Strongest team for both I suggest. I think pardews press conference after Saturday suggests he feels that confidence from winning for both the team and fans is the key to our success for the second half of the season.

I am going to both and looking forward to them.
  • Same team for WBA with maybe Thomas starting for Ambrose and Fortune or Sodji coming in if fit.

For Watford I'd play all the 7 players we are going to sign next week plus bring back M Bent and Faye.

Seriously I'd play Big Chris upfront with either SuperMac or Varney to combat their arial threat and I'd keep Sodji or Fortune in the side for the same reason. I'd also be tempted to bring Samedo in but hard to drop ZZ or Holland so maybe player with one wide player and three in the middle
  • Has Shittu gone to African Nations? If so that's a major plus for us
  • Yeah shittu is in the 23-man nigeria squad. Hadn't thought about that before but he is key for them, so great for us.

Well, that's how Mr Curbishley strung his midfield together - one wide and 3 running centre mid.
  • not too bothered by the cup game, would like to keep same team for watford except fortune in for paddy (if fit) and big chris in for izzy..... we must not lose to keep ourselves in with a decent chance of automatic promotion and also to stop palarse going above us ......aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
  • Robinson was sent off for WBA on Saturday for two yellow cards so will be missing as well.

Let's hope Marlon King is unsettled by his impending move to Fulham or has move to Fulham or refuses to play as well.

I still think that we have a bigger and better squad than most. We have had out

    Reid
    Toddy
    Fortune
    Gibbs
    Thatcher
    Sodji

Moo2 has only just come back from injury, Varney was injured as well and sam and Mills were suspended.

maybe with a more settled side and some experience coming back in we can kick on although the optimism from the last two game is in huge contrast to the previous weeks. A few weeks ago selling Reid would have been a hanging offence. Now it "if we can get a decent price".
  • 6 points from the last 6 games is a rubbish return but if we were to beat watford then i might think there could be optimism on the horizon.
Personally i'm not convinced defensively we're good enough even with fortune or sodje available

  • Don't care about the cup. Promotion is the priority. I'd wrap key players such as ZZ in cotton wool to ensure they are fighting fit for Watford and play those who need matches against WBA like Dickson and McLeod.

    Something like:

    Randolph

    Sankofa
    Mc Carthy
Fortune / Sodje depending on fitness
    Powell

    Wagstaff
    Basey
    Racon
    Thomas

    McLeod
    Dickson

    Subs:

    Weaver
    Bougherra
    Ambrose
    Varney
    Iwelumo

Youga is now the first choice left back but Basey can apparently play midfield so let's give him a chance to see if he can play the holding role.
  • If I go all the way to west brom tomorrow and that's the team I wont be best pleased. Winning becomes a habit, lets put our best team out.

Watford is a vital game so we need our key players fit and fresh.

We are not going to win the Cup or even have a decent run so why run the risk of injuries and suspensions when we have some 6 pointers coming up in the league?
  • f*** the cup - we've always been shit in it so why not again this year. Let's sort out this league and show thenm who the daddy's are -
  • Can see no reson why we wont win both, WBA will rest players, and Watford are on a downward glide

    and we've won 1 in 7 games....
  • And how many of the six have we lost, coupled with who are Watfords recents defeat been to.........i look forward to your response
  • we lost 2 west brom away and the mighty colchester home , hence my less than optimistic approach to us WINNING these next 2 games....
