Do you Whisper a lot?

I just have a few questions for each of you, so please take a minute or two to discuss this.

Would you say that you make use of the Forum's whisper function a lot? Daily? Every other day, etc? How many whispers do you receive/make a day on average? Obviously, whispers rely, to a degree, on whether you see that the intended target it online. So is their a pattern to when you whisper? Do you whisper every morning, or more in the afternoon, for instance?

I'm just interested in how people use the Forum, especially whispers, because I don't see this and they add a lot of strain to the system resources. If I know a bit about how they are used, maybe we can tweak some things and make it all run a little better.

Personally, I probably receive a couple of whispers every day to do with site organisation and member queries. In fact, I just realised you can actually calculate the number of whispers (at least Whispered Discussions, if not comments in public discussions) you've made by locating "Whispered Discussions" in your Panel on the left and clicking "Show all".

I have 243 Whispered Discussions since the site began, most of which are to do with organising aspects of the site, welcoming new members etc. Some are whispers I send to myself, to keep notes, or to test various issues (Does anyone else do this, or know that you can whisper yourself?). I don't think there's any pattern to the time I tend to whisper.

I probably use it once or twice a month if that. But then again if i knew more people personally on here i'd use it more so i'd say that would have a major bearing on things.

Barely ever use it myself but really like having the option.

I think I've sent and/or received about 25 whispered messages since the site began...

How personal!!! You be asking how sexual partners we've had next. Maybe 3 or 4 whispers a week but I respect all the people I whisper to and stay in touch afterwards

What is frustrating (I'm talking whispers now not sexual partners) is that if you start a private discussion then the recipient doesn't have it flagged up as happens with whispers.

I have a fair few whispered discussions with tavern when i whisper him to get the dinner on and to check whether he's done all his household chores that i've left him for the day....

I whisper err not that much to be honest, normally just reply to people that have whispered to me probably only once or twice a week, think it is rude to be honest. :-)

I've got 13 pages of whispered discussions and over 30 pages of whispered comments.

I think its a brilliant tool and one of the strengths of the forum. Gone are the days of messages filling boards like 'FAO Barry' with messages like 'meet you at the station at 6'.

From an admin point of view, i find it really helpful to deal with any particular issues discreetly and directly, without washing laundry in public or things being misinterpreted.

I've got 85 whispered discussions, and 457 whispered comments.

No pattern to when I use it but do find it useful. Only improvement, IMO, would be the ability to whisper multiple people in one hit

Know where you are coming from, but would worry that would make things very inclusive and the forum as a whole wouldn't flow as well.

I use wispers rarely, although when needed they are very, very usefull.

I've only used it when responding to other whispers, but I think it's a good tool, it allows someone to check on availability or ask a question without the hassle of sending personal e-mails or asking something in public that would quickly clog up the boards. How many here have my e-mail address for example? I think outside the site admin crew very few people.

Then of course there is the always amusing whispers which go wrong...

I only whisper occaisionally and i get a few- i certainly agree that it's better for the forum than a thread starting with FAO-

Although if i know peoples email i tend to use that instead to start a conversation

Biggest plus is when they go wrong though! Never not funny!

1905 keeps making rude suggestions to me via the whisper function. He's also been known to send me pornographic images which are disgusting. Can you ban him please?
