doesn' work - think it is the Indy site rather than your link

you're right, link is correct. Should be working in a bit i reckon.

Looks like we're spreading our germs onto other sites !

Has the site caught the norovirus too?

I agree AFKA a most interesting article.

At the moment we appear to be lacking in new talent though Grant Basey could be the exception. Its pretty evident that the Premiership is having a big effect across the whole of English game not just the national side. Whether its a positive effect!!!

And I didnt know Andy Reid was only 25. I hope he can lose the injury prone/fitness tag and progress with us.

I still think Luke Varney could be something special.

At the moment, i think Charlton have some really good home grown players coming through. I think our midfield of the future will be Arter and Wright as both of them look like they're going to be quality players, Jonjo Shelvy is an England under 16 international so he must be decent and as you said, we also have Grant Basey.

Dont worry, they will all be sold/let go by the time they reach 20.

Recent posts on here have been saying we ned to strengthen our defence - perhaps we should look at trying to bring in Danny Shittu,Linvoy Primus or Michael Turner - all doing sterling work with their current employers and all deened worthless/surplus to requirements to their previous employer.

Because at the time the Employer was a much bigger organisation and the staff weren't up to the standard.

You're right though. Had we had known we were relegated last season we could have held onto them for 12years/10 years/5 years or so untill they could be of use. I mean thats what most football teams do right? We should hold onto players and have a squad of 97 players so should anything happen in the next 10 years we have a player that has come through the academy that are upto the level of division 2 & 3.

When we released Primus we knew that there was a good chance that given 200 games he would probably come good. The problem was that at that time we had another youngster who we thought could make it, and we couldn't give both of them 200 games. I would suggest that if you think that we should have kept Primus and let Rufus go that you are in a minority of one.

Jon Fortune was considered to be a better defender than Danny Shittu in the same way Rufus was chosen over Primus, as mentioned above.

I don't think either Rufus or Fortune have let us down which suggests the choices made were largely correct.

Turner was released when he was fifth in the pecking order of centre halves then at the club and at the time there seemed no way through for him.

If Doris Stokes was on our backroom staff then we would have predicted Rufus finishing through injury and our eventual relegation and retained players accordingly.

    Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

I thought we tried to keep hold of Shittu but he wanted to leave as he didn't feel he'd get a chance in the first team with us. Could be wrong though – my only source for that is my Dad!

    Jon Jo Shelvey, Wagstaff,Ucheli,Bassey,Randolph

all players who next season COULD come through and be good enough for the CCC however should we go up then again these players will not be given the time to learn as the pressure and importance of not getting relegated will remove their opprtunity due to a30 something johnny forienger will come in and play instead.

However if you look at the criticisms aimed at our players this season, hopefully because these kids are home grown, people wont cane into them.

if they are not given the time to learn that footie is different at every level you step up and are booed and ruined on sites like this until it reaches fever point,

which is then transferd to Saturdays we will never have great homegrown talent.

an old cliche i know but they have to be given time to make mistakes,

football always comes round in cycles and it has been a laong time since we produced 3-4 players that come through altogether.

out of the players i mention I think Shelvey could be the player we have all been looking for he seems to be agressive, narrow minded, extreemley skillfull, Box to box when in midfield, dead ball specialist. and has the sort of name that goes with a modern day footballer.

But he has no hair at 16 why i dont know .

When we first came back to the Valley we made a virtue of a necessity ie playing kids. many such as Paul Bacon weren't really all that.

Under Curbs in the Prem we rarely risked young players which is perhaps understandable. What I think was the real problem is that we kept kids like Sam in the reserves when teams lower down would have taken him on loan - Colchester certainly asked more than once.

At least the names mentioned will, like Wright, Youga and Dickson get loaned out to get experience and/or increase their sell on value.

If Golfie has to go back to Primus who made his debut in the 92/3 season then we aern't doing that bad at all. In fact the examples Golfie gives are the exception that proves the rule.

Shittu has played one season in the top flight and he got relegated. Sure he could do a job for us now but that is one player and when we let him go we weren't a CCC side. And we had a sell on clause with him as we do with most of the kids.

As Len says hindsight is a wonderful thing. Golfie you have already dismissed Sinclair as rubbish. Should we hold on to him for a decade in case he come good or we get relegated again? No, that would be silly but then again no more so than dismissing a player who scored on his first full start for us.

forgot about wright he looks like he could make a name for himself

the future looks quite good really

    Randolph
    Moots
    Youga
    Bassey

    wagstaff
    christensen
    wright
    Sinclair

    Shelvey
    Ucheli
    Dickson

I am not sure of any centre halves we have that could slip in but potentially we could have 11 first teamers taht have all either come through ranks or started their careers at Charlton and therefor not cost the earth in the next year.

can only be good for money, fans and club the best thing of all is they are all quite attacking players so we could see some great offensive play maybe not going up is not the end of the world

You could add Racon to that list, and Aswad Thomas, is Jani Tanska still on our books?

And not forgetting Harry Arter. We DO have an impressive list of young players at the club now. Let's just hope that they get a chance. Pardew at least has a record of playing kids. Under Curbs I'm not even sure that Basey or Youga would have got into the team.
