Coming In ?

On the books at the moment we have in defence.
Weaver
Randolf
Sodji
Youga
Bassey
Powell
Thatcher
Tragic
Fourtune
macarthy
Moto2
Gibbs (no really)

although i think Sodji will be recalled in mid Jan thats an awfull lot of defenders. Maybe we need to say cherio to Gibbs and Thatcher buy their contracts out.

I would like to see a real good ball winner in the centre of midfield and a striker who has some experience.

As for the "we aint got no money " shout well it isnt a great strategy really. Sure if we plead being skint we might get a few bob off a transfer but it also means others may stiff round our players. while we can always say naff off it couldbe unsettling. Our own players agents may think its time for the off.If you also want someone to come inand buy the club, telling them we r skint aint gona get the big money , they will think they can get us cheap.

The £9million in debt wont include the parashute money, any installments from Bents transfers any money for Young or Diawara. Not flush with cash but not in to bad a shape. My thinking is maybe £2million and what ever we mightget for TwatyBent. So £2million and 2 bob.

Two keepers which with Elliot is about right I would say.

    So that leaves

    Sodji
    Youga
    Bassey
    Powell
    Thatcher
    Tragic
    Fourtune
    macarthy
    Moto2
    Gibbs (no really)

So ten defenders for 4 positions, 11 if you include Sankofa. So if we need cover that 1 playing and 1 for cover = 8 players needed given the number of suspensions and injuries.

Of that 10 Gibbs is out all season anyway and then he's out of contract. All very well saying pay up Thatchers contract but that will cost us a lot and he may well prove to be a valuable player. Certainly gives us more experience at the back and free Youga who can play across the back according to accounts and Basey who is the new Keith Jones. Powell is getting on and shouldn't really be in the equation.

so that leaves us with 9 players on of whom is on loan. Personally I think Sodji stay but we shall see. Any less than 8 defenders is cutting it very fine IMHO
  • Did we really sign Gibbs on only a two year contact? So that's it then, we'll never see him in a first team shirt, is he still physically with us, or just having his pay cheque sent to America?Cory Gibbs walks on water
  • I think he owes us another contract, if we want one, by rights

Presumably he's on Prem wages and won't be willing to drop, just for the fact he owes us.
  • Won't be willing to drop???

He hasn't played for two years - I don't think he'll have much choice!
  • Bit Harsh on Gibbs to be honest, I'm sure he's devastated that his chance came and has now probably gone, in fact looks pretty bad for him that he has a career threatening injury, I don't know that but it must be looking grim. I'm sure he didn't come over here with the intention of taking the p**s for 2 years. I for one feel gutted for him.
  • we normally have an option for another 2 years on most players we sign anyway don't we.
  • Gibbs' only chance of getting his next contract is on a pay as you play basis. Might as well be with us.

    S.
  • Henry, what makes you say he is out for the season? Three metetarsals broken nearly three months ago. I'd expect him to be in training by now. John Terry who got a similar injury before Xmas expects to be back this season.

I was about to make the same point.

Darren Bents money is included in the losses of £9M (It will be in the balance sheet as money owed) Cash flow is different from profit. You are right re the parachute payment. The other transfer money was spent on Varney, McLeod Etc

I wouldnt have thought it would be as Spuds are paying us in installments
  • Not on the break down sent to share holders. What was the date Bent signed for The Yids? if is was pre June 2007 then thats why it dosnt appear. Young and Diafra where after June so thats £5million to be shown in Decembers figures
