Dickson not good enough??

Seeing as Chris Dickson failed to score against the mighty Aldershot

I gather that he will now be pillored and booed like Mcloud and Iwellumo.

Can we start slagging off now as i for one cant wait to read about it on here.

does this make him a goon??

or will we say give him a run in the team first as IMO that is all mcloud and Varney need.

  • Not at all. He scored a hattrick in one of the reserve games last year and as we know scored freely for Gillingham.

We need to give our strikers a chance.
  • exactly the point i am making Maglor
  • I think it was 4 he got against Pompey

McLeod & Varney scored freely for their old clubs last season.
They've already proved they can score.

Along with Dickson, all these players just need to get a run of games.

They can't all play at once, of course, but we need to give all our strikers a chance.

And lets slag off and drop the one player that has proved he can score at this level.
  • There needs to be a bit more from us fans to those around us on Saturday

anyone who starts giving it boo's and bollox to the front players who have tried harder than most in the team without really hitting it off . Start giving them pelters back.

I remember the season that Mendonca played up front with Leaburn the early part of 98 (I think) years are not my strong point especially those as i was well out of it for most games those days.

Leaburn got booed by a small section of the f block every game (and now i am not)saying Leaburn was a god but Mendonca went on record to say that he loved playing upfront with Leaburn as the space he got in behind him was excellent.

Look what happend that season all we need to do stick together from here on in one big push from us and the team and we could still do something our fans were blinding that season
  • are other clubs fans as bad as ours?

    I have not noticed it

But i agree Dickson out sell him s he did not score LOL ;-)

I remember what happened that season. Leaburn scored 3 goals then left. We then went on a charge with Mendonca and Bright up front and got to the play-offs.

Mendonca loved playing up front with anyone, he scored goals playing with anyone cos he was Clive Mendonca.
  • Good point H but how do we know if Mcloud or Varney or Dickson could be half as good as Sir Clive if we are not with them and constantly against them.

Point i was trying to make was that it took a threat of Violence (not that I am advocating that now) to stop the effing div that was driving me nutts every game to get off of Leaburns back and get behind the team as results werent that bad as they are not now i know we have dropped some clangers but new young team and all that it does not help lets digg deep see what happens this season and then and only then should any of us be as critical as we currently are

But hey it sounds good Dickson owt now :-)

  • I thought McLeod looked better v WBA but just like any forward he needs to score goals. The one forward who has scored consistantly this season has been slated (mainly it seems to me because he can't beat four defenders on his own when balls are pumped up to him) so what chance do non-scoring forwards have.

I'd still like to see some new players come in to improve the squad and if that means moving some other players out then so be it. That's what Pards gets paid for.
  • Agreed
Ambrose out ambrose out ambrose out

can say it on here as i refuse to do shite like that on match days

Ambrose out 2 mill to ipswich
  • We are very quick to blame strikers, but inoa that is not the problem, the problem lays in the midfield, the reality is we are not creating enough chances during a match for the forwrds, they are having to cpme back to recieve the ball rather than haveing balls to run onto, and as and when we do play it up front in the abscene of Reid is mainly being hoofed up field from a centre half, in the hope big Chris will get a knock down for one of the midfielders, whom are not following up quick enough
  • It is senselss booing players that try hard, it won't improve thier play or team morale, what ever happened to getting behind your team when the chips were down?
  • Surely it is a chicken and egg situation, do the crowd get the team going or do the team have a few early shots or fashion a few decent chances to get the crowd going, i dont think the crowd are booing the team for the sake of it and that they have lost, i dont mind losing, and no matter what the result i am one who always stays till the final whistle, but its the manner in which u lose, at this moment in time we are not going down with a fight, having shts at the goal, taking a man on, downing the things that get the crowd behind u
  • I think that boils down to the fact that we do not have a leader in the side, somebody that can pick the players up and get them motivated to fight. Reid tries but he is hardly Kinsella in that department.
  • Lets not forget that we have a totally new strikeforce this season and not all of them can play in each game.

I have been impressed with McLeods pace and desire in the games I have seen him. On Saturday, he also looked like he could make some good headed flick ons as more of a target man. Lets give the bloke a chance.

The same with Dickson. He's come straight from Non League, gone out on two different loans, the first didn't work, the second seems to have been much better. He's still raw and needs some nurturing. Let Pards judge when it's best to play him.

The last thing we want is another Lisbie - full of promise but, for the most part, unable to convert the expecation into goals. You've only got to see Lisbie on New Years Day to see what a gifted footballer he is, so you can only imagine the kind of affect , the weight of expectation had on him when we played for us. Because of the many injuries he suffered, he would nearly always find himself fighting his way back into the team, getting 10 minutes at the end of a game to somehow re-start his career. Most of the few times he had a sustained run in the team, he scored goals, only to get injured at be back to square one again.
  • Yeah, let's just relax, enjoy it and hope for play offs, CAFC v Sunderland is still one of my top 5 footie moments ever.

Before we, the fans, were spoilt by the glory years, players that showed commitment and drive, despite their limitations of ability were tolerated and rarely booed, now days if players have not "done it" in the 1st 10 minutes of their debut, they are getting harangued. Our expectation levels have risen but so have our intolerance. If the board are not the warm family / community guys they were in the past, nor are we the fans.
  • I am of the Opinion that Dickson will be sold for the First Serious offer (Say £250,000) we get.

  • Lisbie / missbie so what !!!! This club stood by him for 10 years. Through all the injuries , the shitt games, the "give the poor lad a chance" bolloxx. I cant ever remember booing him and i cant ever remember being confident he would score for us. Good luck to him where ever he plays but CAFC owe the guy f**k all.
McCloud ? do we give him 10 years ? He tried on saturday no doubt about it . I thought he looked ok (bit light weight maybe). I thought he put more effort than Varney who looked a bit pi55ed off at times.
  • im with you kets i dont think pards rates him, otherwise surely he would have played by now.

GH, I assume your comments are directed at me. I didn't say "give Lisbie a chance", he had his chance, I was talking about McLeod and comparing the weight of expectation/criticism that is starting to come his/Dicksons way with what happened to Lisbie. My point is that maybe Lisbie suffered in consequence of that and I hope that the same doesn't happen to McLeod/Dickson, hence the phrase "give the bloke a chance".
  • Is there enough support on these boards to influence the negative bstds in the stands who only go to boo can only be due to spurs being to expensive to go to
  • For what it's worth Bing, i agree with pretty much everything you say.
I think Iwelumo is knackered and could do with a rest, maybe introducing him as a sub late on if we're chasing a game and hoofing it long. Give McLeod and Varney a start together at home to Blackpool and up at WBA and see how they go. I think both showed promise on saturday to be worth at least a couple of games to see if they can work
  • [cite]Posted By: Ketman[/cite]I am of the Opinion that Dickson will be sold for the First Serious offer (Say £250,000) we get.

It's a point of view and you may be right.

Perhaps another point of view is that he's raw, which he is; he has a talent for scoring goals, which he does; that he needed him to gain professional experience, which has been acheived; that Pards already has two strikers, other than Big Chris, who haven't yet cemented a regular berth which is true; and Pards wants to give them a chance first before he turns to Dickson. That's my reading of the situation. Does that mean that we won't sell him an offer comes in? No but I doubt that there is a plan to sell him already well advanced.
  • I should add, that if we bring in another striker during this window, Pards may send Dickson off on loan again as five (fit) strikers may be too many.
  • If Pards thinks Dickson is capable of scoring 20 league goals in a season, he'll only get rid of him if he thinks he's not worth the trouble or there are better options.
  • I personally would like to see Dickson play off Iwelumo, there solely in and around the 18 yard box, finally Big Chrissy would have someone to knock down AND who would have a poachers instinct. I don't give a toss if Dicko contributes nothing else to the team.
  • There is probably little we can do about it but IMO (and it has probably been said) I believe that our away performances have been better partly because of the atmosphere at the Valley becomes tense when things are not going well and that will impact on all the players not least the strikers.
